But how did it get there from China?

I would guess that Italy is a major tourist destination for Chinese people....and vice versa.

Yep....that's true.

The Balkans are also on a "relatively narrow peninsula"----but they didn't get it as drastically as Italy. I'm guessing it's the tourism that did it.

No. I'm not attaching any blame on tourists or tourism. People should not be deterred from traveling and seeing the world in the future.

But we have to find some way of controlling this sort of thing in the future----because it will happen again.

I would have to look a while for it, but saw somewhere earlier in this thread where someone mentioned bringing workers from China to Italy for manufacturing jobs and many trips between the two countries for exporting certain foods made in Italy and sent to China.
