It would be interesting to find out why this occurs in specific environments. JWs have a low retention rate and the majority of youths that leave become atheists.

I have a total lack of appreciation for fundamentalists since I have had too many try to belittle me and insult me for having a health condition.


Why did they try to belittle you for having a health condition?



My mom dated this guy that was a real strict fundamentalist. He and most people in his inner circle wanted to constantly beat me over the head with the Bible if I acted a certain way for having adrenaline levels high enough to question if I have cancer, yet expected me to be understanding of their behavior for having normal adrenaline levels and acting angry or threatening.


That sounds tough!

I have to keep my son and dad separated sometimes because my dad is not understanding as far as ADHD goes. He thinks he should be disciplined for fidgety behavior that my son can’t help.

I understand, I eventually came out in the case above that really upset the guy when I put him in checkmate on what his beliefs were.

This guy went telling me that my health condition with cancerous levels of adrenaline was no excuse for any negative behavior like using profanity, yet he expected me to be understanding of his circumstances when he claimed "too much adrenaline" for nearly killing someone in an act of road rage. He got mad at me for calling him out on a double standard and explaining how he was being a hypocrite unfit to know what the Bible says if he is going to make a double standard about having a health concern deserving less forgiveness than normal human impulses.

Yes it's funny how flicking through my copy of the NIV bible that abhorrent behavior is usually interpreted as a sign of a malady caused by demons. If you watch a Pentecostal mass where members of the congregation seem to be having a seizure the pastor will thump them with a bible and fill their soul with the holy spirit to cast out the aforementioned demon.

This narrative/model might be behind your mom's boyfriend's perception/attitude toward your behavior.

It is possible, but as I say, I took it as he was nothing more than a hypocrite since he felt passing judgment on me was appropriate then expected to not be judged when he acted out more severely because of basically the same condition.

I thought I said that my mom USED to date the guy. I don't know if it was a coincidence or if I was to blame, but they broke up about a week after I called him on the double standard.
