Funny, you twist my words in order to make a personal attack on me, some might call that ironic.

So, you're saying Carlson is accurate, even though his "great replacement" conspiracy theory is a vile, evil racist lie???

What I'm saying is that you can't judge his accuracy based on your feelings about what he's saying, you can't just say "that's vile and racist, therefore it's wrong", as those things don't correlate. Black people do commit crime out of proportion to their numbers in this country; does the fact that many racists quote that statistic make it inaccurate?

This isn't a case where someone disagrees with you about economics or some other subject. There are some cases where crossing the line goes beyond the pale, and this is definitely one of them.

Truth is truth, no matter what the subject. Are you seriously saying that some subjects shouldn't be questioned?

Kraichgauer wrote:
Throw in Carlson's stolen election lie, and the glorification of the January 6 rioters, and it becomes obvious that he's a liar and unworthy of any trust.

Maddow spent years pushing now discredited Russian collusion stories, yet you trust her, proving my point even further.

You mistake my intent with that comment, I'm getting perilously close to outright stating you're not smart enough to understand what I'm saying, and I wanted it made clear I was trying to avoid having to say it so bluntly.

Of course promoting a lie like the replacement theory disqualifies Carlson's credibility! It's completely untrue that Jews/liberals are bringing in supposedly easily controllable black and brown people to replace whites! And just how are whites supposed to be replaced? Is America like a nightclub, where someone leaves then somebody else is let in?
Just because the Republican controlled senate and congress refused to do their job and even consider the evidence gathered by the prosecution hardly means Trump's collusion with Russia wasn't real.
Yes, I do perfectly understand what you're saying. I just think it's completely wrong.

You guys know I can tell when you report my posts, right? That's a funny one to pick, as I didn't aim it at anyone in particular, I just said it's hard not to draw certain conclusions when arguing with certain members without naming anyone. Personally, I think my replies to Kraichgauer are closer to the line, but then I'm not a wannabe junior moderator/The Smartest Man On Wrong Planet™ .

You're still missing the point, you're opposing Carlson because you don't like what he's saying rather than his actual record of accuracy. Have you ever actually watched him?

It was fake from the start, and the evidence proves it:

I'm not the one saying he's inherently untrustworthy, and he's also beside the point, I'm not actually trying to litigate Tucker Carlson's record, I'm trying to get you to see that you base your trust not on whether someone is known for telling the truth, but rather whether or not they're in your tribe.

No, it's not, and clearly you don't understand the very concepts being discussed. You don't like what Carlson says, that does not mean what he says isn't true, and your failure to distinguish the two is concerning, to say the least.

Kraichgauer wrote:
Again, you're being obstinate, unless you actually believe Carlson's racist tripe about "the great replacement."

You keep using that word, I don't think it means what you think it does. Also, I can disbelieve a specific thing a person says while still thinking they're on balance accurate, it's not a difficult concept for most people.

I'm really starting to run out of ways to avoid stating the obvious here, in case any mods should happen to look at this exchange later.

Say it.
Let's see what happens.

Saying someone is stupid or an ignoramus is a personal attack.
Saying someone has difficulty with reasoning is an observation.
I hope you can see the distinction.

Remember that best action in those situations is WALK AWAY.

If people are being dense, it doesn’t usually help anything to point it out, “honest” or not.

(Not to mention, the question of who is being dense v who is failing to communicate is quite subjective, and not an item of fact)

I would suggest it is best to avoid saying either.

You can say “you don’t seem to be following my reasoning. Let me try a different explanation.”

When that doesn’t work, “you still aren’t seeing what I meant. I don’t know how else to communicate it.”

Phrase in a way that shows it as a communication problem, not either person’s fault. Fault does not need to be assigned, and intelligence does not need to be maligned.

Outside readers can reach their own conclusions on where the communication problem originates if that is what one is worried about.

Saying someone “has difficulty with reasoning” is also a personal attack. It is an attack on a person’s cognitive capacity.

The basis for someone allegedly having “difficulty with reasoning” is that the person allegedly having that “difficulty” doesn’t agree with the one alleging it.

If I don’t agree that January 6th was merely a “protest,” then I have a “difficulty with reasoning,” according to a person who believes that January 6th was merely a “protest.”

This really goes off topic but the whole issue of potential collusion with Russia isn’t really resolved because key information has never been accessed and key witnesses stonewalled or lied. I don’t trust reporting in either side that treats it as resolved. Too many derivatives never investigated at all because of the successful stonewalling and congressional limitation of investigation scope. Claims of innocent only arise because it hasn’t been proven (and probably never will be). Claims of guilt lack reliable proof. The most honest reporting IMHO recognizes that.

Great popcorn material. But I had to scroll up to the title of this thread to recall what it used to be about.
