The Capitol isn't the White House. :nerdy:

Sorry I mistook the place where congress meets (the capitol) as synonymous with the white house....my bad
I assume security is the same though?

security at the white house [where POTUS lives] is at least a bit tougher. there are anti-air personnel on the roof from what i've read.

capital police fell down on the job as well as they behaved lackadaisically towards the protestors at least at first.

The invasion was not expected so that's understandable

The identity of some of the rioters who invaded the capitol building include members of the QAnon organisation led by the dude in a horned helmet

Image

QAnon conspiracy theorists believe Donald Trump is in a secret war against elite Satan-worshipping paedophiles in government, business and the media who will one day be arrested and executed.

If this is not the definition of a dangerous cult I don't know what is?

Ironically, this "protest" (more of an attempted coup) may have actually sped up the process of confirming Biden as President. Some GoP senators who sounded like they were going to dig in and try and stall it seemed to decide "screw this, let's just get it over with" and went the other way.

I wish I could find that article I was looking at in an app a while ago, because it basically direct quotes Pence and McConnell essentially labeling the protesters as anti-democratic, and telling them they "did not win". I still don't think highly of either of them, but I do respect that they at least have a shred of respect for the political process in their country. It wasn't long after that when even Donald conceded, as mentioned in a different article. He said some nonsense about him having the "best first presidency in US history", but while he's clearly delusional to the very end, at least he won't be a hurdle for democracy anymore.

But it's our duty as Americans to not only bear with it, but to fight to correct the error and make it better.

but with those people it's like trying to have a conversation with a brick wall that expectorates in your face with trumpian soundbites.

I know there are dangers. But what America is supposed to be is worth fighting for.

Well, at least we'll have one-party rule by the Dems for generations to come.

The only alternative is something *further* to the left, like maybe a socialist or Marxist party.

If I was in an armed mob & attempted to take over Westminster carrying a tricolour, I would be done for treason. And probably terrorism.

If an African American armed mob was to try to take over the Capital building carrying flags of African nations, they would be done for treason, surely?

So what gives when it comes to the flags of two failed states: Dixie and Nazi Germany? Those aren't USA so that's treason.

Feeling affinity towards other nations (ideally not Nazi Bloody Germany - someone has German roots they're proud of then they can fly the modern flag outside their house, flying a swastika makes you a Nazi so on ethical grounds you should opt against it, first amendment or no first amendment) outside of government buildings is one thing. Peacefully carrying flags of other nations about inside the building is another - esp if one is invited to do so in a token of peace. But storming government property waving flags of other nations should be treated at best as treason.

My bigot friend thought this was a congressman carrying that flag but I used my critical thinking and fact checked that image.

???  the magas have not suddenly disappeared, nothing to make them do anything but double-down on dumbth. they will continue to make mischief until they become too old, for years to come. they will continue to enthusiastically go out and vote for GOPers, when LBJ fretted that he [the democrats] lost the south, he knew it was PERMANENT. if you looked at how razor-thin the margins were in Georgia, you could not conclude that this changed to any real degree. thankfully enough GOPers bought into the lie that the vote was rigged against them, and didn't turn out in their normal numbers, that is the ONLY reason the democrats squeaked out the barest of winning margins.

That must have bought back memories of the 1920s when the KKK marched through washington with full approval of President Coolidge.

Most congressmen look 25 years old, and wear blue jeans and hoodies, while doing legislative business on the floor!

And we still live in the 19th Century...so facial hair is still common on American politicians!

Your friend's "bigotry" is obviously the least of his mental problems!
