Emergence of a Deadly Coronavirus
Well this is day THREE of the voluntary or maybe mandatory quarantine for us old folks.
Well I should be going stir crazy at this point but I had a good nights sleep and even had some Stage 7 sleep and I brought back a shinny bangle to play with.
Stage 7 sleep is the best part of the sleep cycle. It happens after Deep sleep and REM sleep when the body is physically restored and the mind is reset. All the short term memory is cleared away and shifted to long term memory and the slate is wiped clean. All the clutter is gone. And that means its time to play. I get into my little go cart and fly away at a million miles an hour and race around the track. Sometimes I find a little bangle, like a Christmas ornament dangling from the sky, so I reach out and catch it and turn it around and around in my hands to see what I have found.
This particular bangle was the origin of the Wuhan coronavirus. It has such an interesting beginning. And that beginning is related to its big sisters influenza viruses: Swine Flu, the Hong Kong Flu and the Asian Flu.
So I will have some more fun playing with my shinny new bangle today.

So can someone explain to me why
Iran
Active Cases: 11,144
In Mild Condition: 11,144 (100%)
Serious or Critical: 0 (0%)
-----------------------------
Italy
Active Cases: 33,190
In Mild Condition: 30,692 (92%)
Serious or Critical: 2,498 (8%)
----------------------------------
United States
Active Cases: 11,069
In Mild Condition: 11,005 (99%)
Serious or Critical: 64 (1%)
Is supposed to be a major crises?
American adults of all ages — not just those in their 70s, 80s and 90s — are being seriously sickened by the coronavirus, according to a report on nearly 2,500 of the first recorded cases in the United States.
The report, issued Wednesday by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, found that — as in other countries — the oldest patients had the greatest likelihood of dying and of being hospitalized. But of the 508 patients known to have been hospitalized, 38 percent were notably younger — between 20 and 54. And nearly half of the 121 patients who were admitted to intensive care units were adults under 65, the C.D.C. reported.
“I think everyone should be paying attention to this,” said Stephen S. Morse, a professor of epidemiology at Columbia University’s Mailman School of Public Health. “It’s not just going to be the elderly. There will be people age 20 and up. They do have to be careful, even if they think that they’re young and healthy.”
In the C.D.C. report, 20 percent of the hospitalized patients and 12 percent of the intensive care patients were between the ages of 20 and 44, basically spanning the millennial generation.
“Younger people may feel more confident about their ability to withstand a virus like this,” said Dr. Christopher Carlsten, head of respiratory medicine at the University of British Columbia. But, he said, “if that many younger people are being hospitalized, that means that there are a lot of young people in the community that are walking around with the infection.”

Greece has a population of around 10 million or half the number of people.
New York now has more than 4,000 reported cases of the virus.
Greece has one tenth of that number of cases.
What is New York's plan to mitigate an explosion of new cases? What if New York state ends up with numbers like Italy or Iran? I'm getting concerned that New York might become an extreme hotbed of this virus.
Iran.
Active Cases: 11,144

-----------------------------
Italy.
Active Cases: 33,190
In Mild Condition: 30,692 (92%)
Serious or Critical: 2,498 (8%)
----------------------------------
So those two are the worst of the bunch?
I can not get the same stats for New York alone but for the US it is
Active Cases: 11,069
In Mild Condition: 11,005 (99%)
Serious or Critical: 64 (1%)
“ And nearly half of the 121 patients who were admitted to intensive care units”
Intensive care is critical or serious so where you getting your numbers?
Actually I’d say being hospitalized is serious. I’ve never been hospitalized for the flue.

I am getting my numbers here: https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/country/us/
According to the CDC up to 850,000 are hospitalized for the flu in the US annually.
COVID-19 is serious. But only 0%, 1% and 8% (the worst) serious.

My state has now banned camping but still non necessity stores are open with no limits on numbers. So people camping secluded away from people is more concern then hundreds of people crammed close together in stores.

Chinese Communists destroy data on Chinese Communist virus:
Chinese scientists destroyed proof of virus in December
Chinese laboratories identified a mystery virus as a highly infectious new pathogen by late December last year, but they were ordered to stop tests, destroy samples and suppress the news, a Chinese media outlet has revealed.
A regional health official in Wuhan, centre of the outbreak, demanded the destruction of the lab samples that established the cause of unexplained viral pneumonia on January 1. China did not acknowledge there was human-to-human transmission until more than three weeks later.
The detailed revelations by Caixin Global, a respected independent publication, provide the clearest evidence yet of the scale of the cover-up in the crucial early weeks when the opportunity was lost to control the outbreak.
Censors have been rapidly deleting the report from the Chinese internet.

I think this is why China can be objectively regarded as being negligent. Negligence is also a legal construct. I believe when the world's struggles with this virus stabilize that China should be held financially accountable. In what way? I think countries that owe debt to China should have a determined amount of said debt erased. No money changes hands but economies would remain more stable.
I read an article about recommendations for the coronavirus. I will give their advice and then my perspective.
Question #1:
How safe is it when I am grocery-shopping to not have a mask? Someone could have just coughed or sneezed before I got there?
Dr. Marc Siegel answer: “Wearing a mask actually doesn't help you because it's not going to prevent the spread of this,” he continued. “Even if the virus is hanging in the air, the most likely way you are going to catch it is from somebody coughing and sneezing on you, so you want to keep your social distancing of more than six feet and I would be careful when you are on the grocery aisles of wiping down things and watching what you are in contact with.”
jimmy m. answer: If you have an N95 or better mask wear it without hesitation. Better to be safe than sorry. Otherwise if you only have a surgical or dust mask, it probably isn't worth the effort. And remember once you leave the store make sure you sanitize your hands with a disinfectant hand gel or wipe.
Question #2
My kids are coming back from spring break in Florida, should they self-quarantine?
Dr. Marc Siegel answer: If the student is flying back from Florida after spending spring break there, he wouldn’t mandate a self-quarantine, but added that he would recommend that they restrict their activities.
jimmy m. answer: Absolutely, put them young whippersnappers in quarantine for a couple weeks. Spring break is a rite of passage. There is a lot of social mingling of young folks. Many will be exposed and bring the coronavirus back with them. They may not even know they carry it. Many colleges are already doing this by delaying the start up date after spring break.
Question #4
Can a CPAP machine help people with breathing problems suffering from COVID-19?
Dr. Marc Siegel answer: “That's something that’s currently being studied and I have gotten a lot of questions about that and I think the answer is probably yes,” Dr. Siegel said. “It probably can help, but it would be a really severe case and we’re looking into that.”
jimmy m. answer: You are putting the CPAP mask right over your face. It is really, really important to clean and purify the mask and the entire apparatus every time before you put it on at night. Otherwise it might be a point of infection. They have CPAP Sanitizer units on the market. These automated CPAP cleaner kills 99.9% of bacteria, germs, and other pathogens.
To this question was added a side note which is important:
Dr. Marc Siegel “I’ll tell you another one I like, is the oxygen test on the finger. That's what we need for people that are suffering from COVID-19, that are being treated at home, that are under quarantine at home.” “I want to know their oxygen content, not just whether they are short of breath because then I can decide whether they need emergency care or not.”
jimmy m. answer: Pulse oximeters have become common in the modern world. Just as thermometers measure your temperature. Pulse oximeters clamp onto your fingertip and measure the oxygen in your blood. They are available on Amazon for under $20.
The pulse oximeter, or Pulse Ox, is an electronic device that measures the saturation of oxygen carried in your red blood cells. The device uses a cold light source that shines a light through the fingertip, making the tip appear to be red. By analyzing the light from the light source that passes through the finger, the device is able to determine the percentage of oxygen in the red blood cell.
Why might this simple electronic device be useful when sheltering-in-place at home? Normal pulse oximeter levels should be 96% or higher. A reading below 90% indicates hypoxemia—a condition in which there is a deficiency of oxygen in the blood, which is normally associated with severe pneumonia. Most individuals that die from this coronavirus infection are dying because they contract pneumonia and that is what kills them. Therefore this gives a quick quantitative assessment of imminent danger (pneumonia) and when to break quarantine and immediately rush an individual to the hospital.

A very unique plan. As Dr. Paul Thompson wrote, "This is the very best paper on the virus I have ever seen."
A woman in Italy caught in the coronavirus lockdown has the following advise for fellow Americans:
“We received the mandate on March 8th for a partial shutdown – the cafes, restaurants closing at six – and then two days later came that entire shut down where schools, all bars, all restaurants, all public gatherings — no masses, no funerals, no weddings.”
During the shutdown, Vajda described the process required to leave your home. “You can have a piece of paper where you fill out your name, passport information, or whether you have the virus or not and what the purpose of your [exit] is.”
Yet for many trapped inside the painfully somber nation, it has come down to mourning and waiting game, steeped in tragedy and the unknown. In some of the hardest-hit areas, local cemetery churches have been hurriedly converted into makeshift morgues, and the days ahead are only set to become darker.
Vajda said that she has stocked up on groceries to prevent having to go back to the supermarket, considering the government's mandate to stay indoors. “Supermarkets are really keeping into that minimum number of people inside and staying away from people.”
Vajda urged Americans to “stay inside” because the spread of the virus is a serious matter.

I have been training for a quarantine the whole winter. And I'm not even coped up in the house really since I prefer to stay in my bedroom most of the time. Which the family refers to as my lair. When it finally starts getting really warm in my room I will probably want to get out into the sea breeze. I am not depressed or anything as far as I know. Just snug.
