It is raging pretty good there. Maybe it is good that Italy is a peninsula which quarantines it from the rest of its neighbors.

Although with the figures I am looking at with 30,692 (92%) cases being mild and 2,498 (8%) being serious, it looks to me like it is starting to taper down.

From what I saw of Asian tourists in my many years of living in Las Vegas, is that many of them wore face masks. Which would explain why they have been so plentiful to so many Asians.

In the US, and perhaps Italy too, they are hard to come by right now. In the US the public is being asked to donate their masks to hospitals and clinics for medical staff to wear.

The public can not wear masks when there are not enough of them in supply.

COVID-19 is serious. But only 0%, 1% and 8% (the worst) serious.

it is not how many annually it is how many at once it you have a major boom is short period of time where you don't have medical beds or equipment to handle a sudden boom a lot of people who normally would have survived if the Hospital isn't overload will die see Italy.

Italy has 3.2 hospital beds per 1000 and the Hospitals are overloaded to point people are dying.
The USA only has 2.8 hospital beds per 1000 and only has 20 Ventilators per 100,000 people what do you think is going to happen if there is a sudden boom in case here?

If I throw one football to you how many are you going to catch?
If I overload you and have 10 footballs thrown your way a once how many are you going to catch?

You know, that's another big lie. WHO and CDC should have told people to make their own masks. You can make one in a few seconds. (Watch the first 30 seconds of the following video). You could use fabric, too.

This is from Dr. James Robb, one of the earliest authorities on coronovirus research: "Stock up now with disposable surgical masks and use them to prevent you from touching your nose and/or mouth (We touch our nose/mouth 90X/day without knowing it!). This is the only way this virus can infect you - it is lung-specific. The mask will not prevent the virus in a direct sneeze from getting into your nose or mouth - it is only to keep you from touching your nose or mouth."

Not true. It can enter through eyes, too.

My guess is that most flu hospitalizations take place within a relatively short time span during the height of flu season. Combining the number of currently serious cases: 2,498 and deaths: 3,405 that comes out to 5,903.

But what I wrote had more to do with someone saying they never had to be hospitalized for the flu.

Virus can enter through eyes. YES.

But the question is: did the virus enter because of airborne droplets? Or because of people rubbing their eyes?

That has not been settled.

They made similar grim predictions for the 2009 H1N1 swine flu. Probably not such high numbers, but definitely much higher numbers than it turned out to be.

Did you actually read the article?

They didn't say anything about masks in that article.

I have been telling people to wear masks and I bought N95 masks back in January.

The stores are out of paper towels too.

I think what is probably working better than masks right now is the huge number of people staying at home.

The thing with pictures I have seen of Asians wearing masks is that they are all in large groups.

When people are quarantining themselves in their own homes they don't really need masks.

That said, I would rather lockdowns be lifted in April in favor of everyone wearing a mask.
