Men who didn't own land still had some degree of rights. Women might have had equal rights in limited regards like property ownership, a white male indentured servant still had more rights than anyone who wasn't white and a man. You might be able to come up with a handful of transgressive examples that buck the norm, but that was the norm.
The only rights or privileges the wealthy wife or daughter of a wealthy man had (compared to a man) were directly a result of being 'his'.
