With love to NYC.

Hospitals being strained is probably a result of everyone with a sniffle reporting to them.

Also due to all the panic and stress people are getting sick. High blood pressure and all that.

Probably a big increase in alcohol consumption and drug use.

Probably attempted suicide rates are going up. Along with actual suicides.

I met XH today because I needed to pick up extra g tube bags and baby tylenol (sold out everywhere).

he said he's stressed because he has been told to fire multiple people, given a list of names to choose from, because of the toll this is taking on the company--
including one of his co-workers that is like a friend and has an elderly dad on life support.


Everything that's happening is still less than my friends in other countries go through daily, inc. contaminated water supply etc (it was bombed by you know who) , so I know I can make it through this.

Sounds real scary.

But it is not.

1 person per hour is dying of covid-19 in NY. Big deal. Probably 50 to 100 normally die per hour in New York.

In the entire US 263 people have died of covid-19.

Meanwhile 7,700 people die each day in the US anyways.

Someone on another forum told me she had a crush on that reporter, when I shared the funny video of the Cuomo brothers (governor of NY apparently, and a CNN reporter) the interview was initially about coronavirus stuff, they just began bickering...

To each their own... He looks mean and lawyer-like (they all have similar noses, the mean ones at least). I like people who have noses that don't look like they've gotten a workout from fuming with anger all the time.

I was speaking with people today who had to fight a lady hoarding all the gluten-free products in their trolley....it turns out they didn't even read the packaging

My brother said they did the arguing on purpose, to lighten the mood, and it was a joke.

It seemed serious to me. Nobody smiled till the end.

Initially I was puzzled as to why it seemed like NYC wasn't taking more extreme measures earlier given the number of people that could be affected by this virus. I was shocked to read, for example that public transportation was business as usual. I understand it a bit better now though as to why the number of cases is rising exponentially there. With millions of people basically living on top of each other in very small living spaces (relatively speaking), they have no food or supplies set aside.

Very densely populated cities like NYC are viewed by many as being "the greatest cities on earth". We're seeing now though that in times of crisis, they can end up being terrible places to be. There's been a global push for years, even by the United Nations to encourage people to move to dense urban areas and even touting the benefits of doing so. I think that's a very bad idea and we're seeing first hand around the world why that's the case.
