Top New Jersey health official Judith Persichilli says everyone will get coronavirus
“I’m definitely going to get it. We all are,” Judith Persichilli told NJ.com. “I’m just waiting.”
Persichilli, 71, is a member of the age demographic for which the virus is most deadly. Nevertheless, she said she believed the odds were still on her side and she would most likely have a mild form of the illness.
Coronavirus ‘exit strategy’ could be months — or years — away
The coronavirus threat will continue to loom for months or even years before mass vaccinations or natural immunities will eliminate its dangers, according to the BBC.
“We do have a big problem in what the exit strategy is and how we get out of this,” said epidemiologist Mark Woolhouse of the University of Edinburgh. “No country has an exit strategy.”
President Trump has refused to say how long policies of social distancing will have to last.
“We’ll have to see what the results are at the end of 14 days, let’s say,” he said Friday — one week after launching the national strategy to tamp down the spread of the virus.
British Prime Minister Boris Johnson has said that the UK can “turn the tide” after three months of school closures and mass-gathering bans.
But neither timeline may be enough.
While a vaccine against the novel virus is already being tested — on the fastest vaccine development path ever seen, US officials have boasted — it will take at least 12 to 18 months to determine whether it works and to ensure it carries no dangerous side effects.
Healthy people who are exposed to the virus may build up natural immunities to it, experts say. Once enough of them have done so, pandemic spread in the rest of the population will no longer be possible.
But that process could take up to two years — and will inevitably cause significant illness and death along the way.
The best hope for a quick solution will be the development of new treatment methods that would keep coronavirus patients from developing deadly complications, like pneumonia. Several drugs are already being tested.
A final option: “Permanent changes in our behavior that allow us to keep transmission rates low,” Woolhouse said.
That could include strict policies of testing and quarantine for anyone who comes down with COVID-19 — or even long-term bans on large gatherings
Majority of NYC’s coronavirus cases are men between 18 and 49 years old
Even though experts say the elderly are the hardest hit by the virus, just 46% of the city’s COVID-19 patients are over 50 while 54% are 18-49. The remaining 2% of cases are people age 5 to 17.
The demographics, from the city’s Health Department, were determined from an analysis of 3,954 positive cases on March 19.
By Friday, March 20, there were 5,151 COVID-19 cases and 29 fatalities.
Women are underrepresented in the city’s tally while men account for 59% of infected people.
Men are more than twice as likely as women to die from the pathogen, White House coronavirus expert, Dr. Deborah Birx, said Friday citing mortality rates from Italy.
In addition to the demographics, the Health Department released a graph showing the alarming strain on the city’s hospital system.

Good point! I will add to this. It is possible that one of the ways that this virus is being spread is through money. Many of us use paper money and coinage in general transactions at stores, restaurants, gas stations, etc. You touch it and then pass it on to someone else. So if you are infected, you are transmitting the infection to someone else through touch.
I noted that around a month ago, the Chinese realized this. They pulled back billions of dollars of their currency and either destroyed it, sanitized it using UV-C radiation or placed it in quarantine. I mentioned it somewhere at the beginning of this thread. I am old fashion and I generally use paper currency more than the younger generations that relies on plastic. Many of us old timers (the most vulnerable group) still do.
Here it is on page 24 of this thread on 16 Feb. I feel it is worth repeating. So I will cut and paste it:
What is one of the most common items passed between people?
A study from 2014 stated: "Paper currency and coins may be a public health risk when associated with the simultaneous handling of food and could lead to the spread of nosocomial infections. Banknotes recovered from hospitals may be highly contaminated by Staphylococcus aureus. Salmonella species, Escherichia coli and S. aureus are commonly isolated from banknotes from food outlets. Laboratory simulations revealed that methicillin-resistant S. aureus can easily survive on coins, whereas E. coli, Salmonella species and viruses, including human influenza virus, Norovirus, Rhinovirus, hepatitis A virus, and Rotavirus, can be transmitted through hand contact. Large-scale, 16S rRNA, metagenomic studies and culturomics have the capacity to dramatically expand the known diversity of bacteria and viruses on money and fomites. This review summarizes the latest research on the potential of paper currency and coins to serve as sources of pathogenic agents." Source: Paper money and coins as potential vectors of transmissible disease.
So China has put it focus on this potential vector - paper money.
A branch of China’s central bank is gathering old paper currency from areas deemed high-risk for the coronavirus and destroying the cash to prevent the contagion from spreading, reports said Sunday.
The Guangzhou branch of the People’s Bank of China (PBOC) ordered the destruction of all paper banknotes from hospitals, fresh food markets and buses in areas exposed to the COVID-19 outbreak to ensure the safety of cash dealings, the South China Morning Post reported.
“Money from key virus-hit areas will be sanitized with ultraviolet rays or heated and locked up for at least 14 days before it is distributed again,” Fan said.
The bank removed 7.8 billion yuan ($1.1 billion) from the southern province of Guangdong between Feb. 3 and Feb. 13, while adding nearly 3 billion yuan ($430,000) back into circulation, the Morning Post reported.
As billions in banknotes are being collected for disinfection or destruction, the PBOC has already distributed 600 billion yuan ($85.6 billion) in fresh currency throughout the country since Jan. 17, according to the outlet.

So for the duration of this pandemic I have decided to use only plastic and I advise all others to do the same.

[p.s. In the process of going back and reviewing past pages of this thread; I stumbled on the fact that on page 7 of this thread on 28 January, I predicted the run on toilet paper.]
At that time Fnord's commented:
Then the herd may panic and stampede. So when a panic sets in, there is not much to be done except go along with the herd...
Lucky for us, humanity acts nothing like a herd of stupid animals that can be provoked into a mindless panic...
This is not an attack on Fnord, he has his own point of view. But rather
"humanity acts like a herd of stupid animals that can be provoked into a mindless panic..."

A very unique plan. As Dr. Paul Thompson wrote, "This is the very best paper on the virus I have ever seen."
^ I’ve noticed that in this country many shops have started to have a bottle of hand sanitiser for staff by the till.
I’ve been thinking of carrying a pack of baby wipes with me whenever I’m out of the house so I can quickly clean my hands after touching anything without my gloves on.
Maybe we should all consider this? ...
I recommend people look at the Worldmeter site for the latest figure on COVID-19.
It seems like if people don’t travel from the Tristate area around NYC (NY, CT, NJ), or from the urban areas of the Pacific Coast, we could do much to contain this thing.
China basically adopted the same policy.....and other areas of China other than Hubei Province weren’t nearly as hard-hit.
One epicenter of Coronavirus is NYC.

This says that: Seasonal flu kills 291,000 to 646,000 people worldwide each year.
Note that most deaths occur during flu season. On average, flu season lasts about 13 weeks (3.25 months).
So that is as many as 646,000 deaths in 3 months.

I have question why would Governments around the world take such strict measures that
1 Crashes the markets
2 likely to put millions on unemployment
3 Kill Small businesses as their income is very limited or non existent now
over a virus that is no worse then Flu?
I really want to know why you think Governments are trying to kill their economies over such a weak virus
I bet you ignore the question lol

Well, not quite. They are not the healthcare experts. This is the person that is responsible:

Ezra's opinion is that he knows better than all the experts and all the world leaders out there. This despite his own admission that he has learning disability.
Ezra's points are:
(1) There is no need for containment measures, just let the virus propagate freely
(2) The mortality rate will automatically be much lower, probably no worse than a regular flu
(3) Hospitals are overcrowded because of people catching common cold/flu
(4) Economy is shattered because of people overreacting, not because of the virus
