Ezra's opinion is that he knows better than all the experts and all the world leaders out there. This despite his own admission that he has learning disability.

Ezra's points are:
(1) There is no need for containment measures, just let the virus propagate freely
(2) The mortality rate will automatically be much lower, probably no worse than a regular flu
(3) Hospitals are overcrowded because of people catching common cold/flu
(4) Economy is shattered because of people overreacting, not because of the virus

(1) I have written that I think the current "lockdown" situation is acceptable "better safe than sorry". But only up to a point ie not for months on end unless it really does become absolutely necessary.

(2) I said that based on charts that I have seen and info I have read from the CDC, that virus epidemics hit a peak within flu season and then start tapering off fairly rapidly.

(3) I said hospitals and clinics are getting a lot of people coming who have cold and mild flu symptoms to get tested for covid-19 ie at least 150,613 have been tested in the United States according to what I read. In other words a lot more people than usual are coming in because of testing.

(4) I said that I am worried about working class people losing jobs over businesses having to shut down. Not for a 2 week shutdown, but rather one lasting months on end as some (experts?) are suggesting should be done.

I do not see why anyone would have a problem with those opinions.

I have also seen articles saying that there was an overreaction to the 2009 swine flu pandemic, and I think it is quite possible that there is a similar type of situation with covid-19.

I bet you ignore the question lol

There are people that are stuck with a belief, then work out justification to match with their belief.

An example is vaccines cause autism. I still run into people that firmly believe in this. Another example is flat-earthers: they believe the earth is flat. Another example is those claiming moon landing was faked. Another example is climate change deniers: despite all the CO2 data and historical temperature measurements back to dinosaur days (when CO2 level was high), they deny there is an increase in temperature. I mean, it's very simple: CO2 was high in the past, temperature was high in the past. CO2 went down (went underground) because of capture by plants and converted into coal or fossil fuel, and that's why we enjoy lower temperatures nowadays. You release CO2 back into the atmosphere, we go back to the temperatures of dinosaur days. No mystery there. Yet, certain people say the rise in temperature is just natural fluctuation, and will revert automatically. They would ignore all scientific data pointing contrary to their belief.

In the past, there were also people that believed that you needed to sacrifice human lives to order please the gods. It was a common practice across the world. People also believed the earth was the center of the universe, and Galileo went to inquisition for that. We look back at all that, and we wonder how in the world could someone choose those believes. Yet, the same mistakes are being made today. For instance, masks. Because of the cultural bias from the West, WHO and CDC both claimed that masks won't help common folks from catching COVID-19. The end result is that the top-30 list in active COVID-19 cases is mostly occupied by Caucasian-dominant countries now, and soon will be exclusively occupied by these countries. (Both China and Korea are trending down, Japan is stable but expected to trend down, too.) Despite this fact, you still see people out there claiming that masks are not helpful and not needed. The thing is, if WHO/CDC have told people masks do help, and have taught people how to make their own masks, COVID-19 would have disappeared already from the planet weeks ago. Such a cheap and simple solution, yet, because of a cultural bias, so many countries are in lockdown, and the economy is shattered. One simple lie, and the world went up in flames.

Why do people choose to be irrational? Learning disability, I guess. Same thing with how to raise autistic children. The problem has never been with autism. The problem has always been with the adults not knowing how to raise their autistic children. You tell those adults how to do things, and they won't listen. And then, they suffer, they whine, they cry, they beg for help. Yet, they refuse to learn, they refuse to acquire skills. They mount mockeries again and again. What can you do?

As my paleontologist friend has told me once: "The destiny of all species is extinction." You look at all the irrational behaviors of people, and you start to think that Mother Nature may have a point.

I have question why would Governments around the world take such strict measures that
1 Crashes the markets
2 likely to put millions on unemployment
3 Kill Small businesses as their income is very limited or non existent now

over a virus that is no worse then Flu?

I really want to know why you think Governments are trying to kill their economies over such a weak virus

Your wife is a nurse and you don't have a thermometer?

Can she get one from work?

That seems crazy to me.

We do not have herd immunity to help fight this virus which is spreading quickly because people are spreading it unknowingly because of their careless flippant behavior. The precautions are there to slow the spread so it doesn't overload our infrastructure and break down supply lines. If supply breaks down it only compounds the problem and now have much larger problems than covid-19. You end up with civil unrest which only spreads the virus further because again, we do not have herd immunity because it is not the flu. Things are going to get much worse before they get better, just wait till we see the ramification of spring breakers going home and spreading it further to places it may not have spread to without that boost. See where this is going?
