Places such as Auschwitz exist so we never forget the terrible atrocities that happened there. Such places are so sad and blighted by history that it must be palpable and I think I'd be too overwhelmed to go there.

Thus, history shouldn't be forgotten - we need to honour the memory of all those who made a stand against it (including the anti-Nazi Germans who risked much in order to save some of the intended victims).

Agreed.  Remember the events and honor the victims (and those who tried to save them).

This is what troubles me about modern-day news: When a mass shooting occurs, the first face we see is that of the (alleged) shooter.  The attached article would detail his name, his parents' names, his hobbies and interests, and how he presented himself among his peers and at school.

Only days later does the Media get around to providing details of the victims, even if those victims are adults whom everybody knew.

This is a travesty, which is why I have contacted every media outlet I could to let them know that they were glorifying the (alleged) perpetrators while diminishing -- or even dismissing -- the significance of the victims.

^You're right. Every victim is an individual with a story to tell and I'd far sooner know more about them, their lost dreams and how their friends and family have lost someone dear and real to them. I have often found myself reading about the victims of such incidents but as you say, only a couple of days afterwards.

A little more off-topic, but I am surprised at the number of people who need to be told that there were other victims of the helicopter crash that killed two members of the Bryant family.  Some even thought that Kobe was the pilot.

Anyway, sorry for the derail.

Again, (imho) monuments should not be for specific individuals.

Having seen Auschwitz, I can confirm it's a pretty intense experience.

Is there a memorial dedicated to the genocide of the American Indians, in America?
Surely there has to be.

I think it was modeled on the memorial dedicated to the genocide of the aborigines in Australya.

Isn't that just a work of art?
There is something similar at the Olympic village.

Wiki says it was made as an art thing dedicated to the aboriginal victims of Europeans, and then bought by the National Gallery and made a permanent exhibit so...maybe?

Maybe,
But hardly a walk-in museum.

So what about the American Indians?

And what about eisenhauer's death camps?

Or someone who does nothing but pick, pick, pick 24/7.

A Apache helicopter could do it in seconds.

I agree with the Aussie that there should be one for remembering the victims of the wars against the Native Americans such as at Wounded Knee. Maybe there is - haven't really checked it out?
