The biggest evidence that it wasn't actually leftist protesters who occupied the Capitol yesterday is that the police put on their kid gloves and didn't massacre them.

I have been wondering about this. Given the presence of armed militia spread amongst the MAGA faithful could the police be worried they will be shot if they use lethal force? Certainly in Charlottseville the militia were firing live ammunition at antifa protestors resulting in injuries.

A capitol police officer has now died following the riot at the Capitol.

That brings the total death toll to 5.

There is - so far - no info on the cause of death.

Lawmakers say they are perplexed at the lack of preparedness among law enforcement given that it had been known for weeks that Trump was promoting a rally he said was aimed at preventing the certification of Biden's win.
As a result of the episode, US Capitol Police Chief Steven Sund is resigning.

Never said it wasn't. Just pointing out they seem to be exclusively white, middle aged men.

For anti-establishment protestors they look awfully like the sort of people that have always done well out of the U.S. system anyway, to the detriment of everybody else. But perhaps with more facial hair than average.

Apparently, the officer died because of injuries sustained in the conflict: Loss of USCP Officer Brian D. Sicknick
