I am really uncomfortable that many of them are getting bail (somebody seems to be bankrolling the expense). So they are walking the streets.

i am wondering if those types were what alienists [psychologists back in the day] and legal people thought of as "moral imbeciles"? after all, they think they are beyond punishment, they are not afraid of consequences and they really don't think their actions through to their logical conclusions.

That's an interesting question. We measure intelligence (IQ) and emotional balance (EQ) but what about morality?
Having a moral compass makes sense if you have solid foundations for what is morally correct/right. There is consensus on what is moral and ethical and there are entire libraries devoted to this pursuit (at least in the western world).

However, there is a difference. If you have low IQ or EQ you will be unlikely to succeed in NT society. However having a weak moral compass doesn't stop one for success. Indeed one could argue that having no moral compass opens up opportunity to exploit others for your own personal gain. Ask Trump.
