What are the odds of this being another William Freund?

He is another AS victim, just like there are other victims; any schoolyard target who is different.

Society needs to learn that bullying and ridicule have gone way too far in our public schools. We need to start marching to take back the playgrounds, seriously!!

Yes, I'm new here, but I have been on some other aspies board for sometime. I had dropped by about a year ago and I think I had joined but I couldn't remember "who I was" here or which email I used... I heard about this over on the FAM boards on Yahoo... I have read the whole thread... yes there were things that could have been handled better but there always are... the first time you do something you learn how not to do it the next time...

I think it might slightly more accurate to say that AS set him to be bullied and otherwise tormented and that in turn setup him up for problems (depression, low-self-esteem, paranoid feels, etc.) From the outside what he did was irrational, but from his point of point it was rational. When anyone (Aspie or NT) is pushed far enough they will snap in one way or another.

I've lived with depression for a long time and seriously consideres "ending it all" several times... the closest I ever can was 20min after seeing my shrink... I spent almost an hour sitting in a dark garage debating the relative merits of starting the car and going to work and starting the car and taking a nap in it. I choose a third option finally... go back to bed and sleep the rest of the day. I picked that because I didn't want to "cheat" my parents out of the insurance money... deciding I needed to make sure it would look like an accident... pretty sad... but I pulled through...

Scribe, thank you for saying that. The whole tragedy is so difficult to grasp. Why did Will Freund kill people? Maybe it was the bullying, maybe his medication, maybe he was insane, maybe he was evil. I don't know. We will probably never know. The fact is that what happened was not just a suicide. Will committed a horrible crime. Let's not forget that and let's not forget the victims. I think about survivors: Smiths, who must cope with the senseless death of their loved ones, and Freunds, who not only have to cope with the death of their son, but also with what he did. God help them.

There's been no verdict from a court of Law in your country; all you have are media accounts of the events. Do you really think you're in a position to make judgements?

That is right sorry to say this but it is true. There will be no verdict from any court of Law and will not be a verdict for You can not convict William Freund for he is dead. Yes William Freund did do a horrible thing and he did kill two others besides himself, maybe the only one can convict him that is only God, for we can not do such a thing.

I do not make judgments, I state obvious facts. There is no reason to reject the results of police investigation, nor accounts presented by various media. There does not appear to be any doubt as to who was shooting during that tragic day. The unknown is the motive, and I refrain from making judgments or speculations about that. I said it quite clearly.

I'm sorry to butt in here, but I would like to know if anyone is aware of what med this young man was on? SSRIs like Paxil and Prozac have been linked to the onset of aggression both suicidal and homicidal. It would be even more tragic if this is relevant to the case.

To me, the drugs are kind of an important element of this too that I would really like to know more about, but I've said nothing to the media at all on this topic because of the pharma ads on some stations/shows....not a good place to bring it up. I have started to drive the social issues a little bit though but mostly just being straight and answering questions.

That's not a stupid question, especially since he was a member for only a short time. He was WillFreund1.

You don't live in a police state, do you? You have a proper system of justice. The police have not even had enough time to complete a proper investigation, anyway. Yes, it may seem cut and dry on the far from complete evidence you're looking at, but in my opinion you have no right to go condemning someone, who can't even refute your allegations.

Your opinion smacks of arrogance, Magic (and of course I'm compelled because of your far from consistent application of rules here to say I'm attacking your opinion, not you). It's the sort of trite crap we'd expect in some tabloid newspaper, that has no wish to see anything beyond the scope of what makes a good story. It's also rather disturbing, because it represents the kind of "justice" the rest of us would expect if something happened to us.

To be honest, I didn't really want to contribute anything to this, because I feel pretty sick at the way some of you are making capital out of the events. And, in contributing, I feel I'm exacerbating that situation, to a degree. To be honest, the decent thing for you all to do would be to just drop discussing it until there's been a proper inquest.

Read my last post and think.

What you and the others in authority here are doing is wrong. You're using the situation to further your own ends. Of course, you'll deny that. But, that's how it looks.

Bec

I sorry I have to do this. William Freund killed two people then killed himself. He did not murdered two people. You have to be charged in a court of Law with the charge of murder first, stand trail and get convicted the of the crime, then You are sent to prison.

But since William is dead to he can't be charged for murder so I am sorry to say he did not murder he kill them instead.

Though this is Legal mumbojumbothou.

Don't like it here? The door IS open. We don't force people to stay here.

And Kevv, semantics. Killing == Murder in most cases

Will Fruend probably did himself and us a favor when he commited suicide. Can you imagine how he would've been treated by the judicial system, attornies, fellow inmates, and the media? You just think the backlash against those of us who live with AS on a daily basis is bad now. There's not a one among us who wouldn't be scrutinized by someone who learned that we too had AS, had Will decided to accept the responsibility of what he'd done, and turned himself in to "authorities".

I feel sorry for Will, I really do. Because I know what it's like to feel that you've got nowhere else to turn, nowhere else to go, and nobody to talk to. I've felt the frustration of feeling like you've reached the end, and can't seem to find the reverse gear in order to back away. It's tough when you've got no one to talk to who truly understands what it's like. Sure, they'll be sympathetic in listening, but they'll always be an outsider looking in, never truly knowing what it's like to live with it day in and day out.

I'm very fortunate, probably more fortunate than others with AS. I've got a loving wife who knows what it's like, as she's lived with me day in and day out for the last 15 years. I've got wonderful kids, 2 of whom I've passed the AS gene to; one of whom, like me, is Deaf.

There is a measure of guilt on my part knowing that they'll be suffering with it throughout their lives, but they have a dad who doesn't just understand, but daily lives it with them. Since this has happened with Will, we've sat down and had hours of conversation together about it.

The conclusion we've reached is that we feel sad for Will; sad that he didn't have the support that we do; sad that he felt as though he had nowhere else to go. What's ironic is how the media harps on how well off his family is, as though AS only touches those of lower socioeconomic standing.

We aren't forgetting his victims either. They, along with the rest of us, will live with the unanswered question of "Why?". Sadly, there are no answers for that question. We all need to look ourselves in the mirror and say "There but for the grace of God go I".
