Never said it wasn't. Just pointing out they seem to be exclusively white, middle aged men.

For anti-establishment protestors they look awfully like the sort of people that have always done well out of the U.S. system anyway, to the detriment of everybody else. But perhaps with more facial hair than average.

Wait, I recognise the black lady in the Pride t-shirt.

Only kidding.....

So much for claims that the rioters were going to be let off lightly.

US Capitol Police chief to resign after Wednesday's riots

Quote:
US Capitol Police Chief Steven Sund is resigning amid criticism over an apparent lack of preparedness to deal with Wednesday's violent mob on Capitol Hill.

Sund's resignation is effective January 16, according to a Capitol Police official.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi on Thursday called for the resignation of the Sund and said the House Sergeant at Arms has told her he is submitting his resignation as well. Michael Stenger, the Senate Sergeant at Arms and Doorkeeper, has resigned as well, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell announced.

Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer had said he would fire Stenger when he became majority leader later this month.

In a statement released Thursday morning, Sund detailed the violent actions of the rioters saying that Capitol Police and other law enforcement officers were "actively attacked" with metal pipes and other weapons.

"They were determined to enter into the Capitol Building by causing great damage," Sund said.

The Capitol Police fired on an adult female as "protesters were forcing their way toward the House Chamber where Members of Congress were sheltering in place." The woman was later pronounced dead after being transported to a nearby hospital. The officer involved has been put on administrative leave pending a joint investigation with Capitol Police and the Metropolitan Police Department.

Sund also said Capitol Police responded to reports of pipe bombs and a suspicious vehicle on the southeast corner of the Capitol, adding that the Capitol police "determined that both devices were, in fact, hazardous and could cause great harm to public safety."

The FBI is investigating the incident further.

The Capitol Police revealed for the first time that 13 people have been arrested for "unlawful entry" of the capitol complex, in addition to the owner of the suspicious vehicle. The police said that additional charges may be filed pending further investigation.

More than 50 Capitol Police and metropolitan police were injured during Wednesday's attack, and several have been hospitalized with "serious injuries," according to Sund.

There are plenty of young men under middle age in those photos....not that it really matters.

I hope they all get arrested, and that we get to see the trials and convictions.

nothing compared to if they were BLM. oh sure, there may be one or two show trials but most of them will get off comparatively lightly. the capitol police have some 'splainin' to do.

Capitol Police officer dies after being hit in head with fire extinguisher during DC riots
Quote:
A US Capitol Police officer has died from injuries suffered while reportedly being struck in the head with a fire extinguisher during Wednesday’s riots.

Brian D. Sicknick collapsed when he returned to his division office on Wednesday and was taken to the hospital, where he died on Thursday, according to Thursday night USCP news release.

The department said Sicknick was injured “while physically engaging with protesters.”

Two sources told The New York Times that the officer had been struck with a fire extinguisher.

Sicknick joined the Capitol Police in July 2008, the department said.

Over 50 officers with Capitol Police and the Metropolitan Police Department were injured Wednesday, authorities said.

We’ll have to find out which Capitol police officers were for the Insurrection...and who were suitably disgusted by it.

NYC man who breached US Capitol is son of prominent Brooklyn judge
Quote:
A New York City man who breached the US Capitol building wearing a bizarre fur costume is the son of a Brooklyn Supreme Court judge, according to a report Thursday.

Aaron Mostofsky, who told the Post Wednesday he’d come to protest a “stolen election,” was holding a police riot shield as a mob of rioters swarmed the building Wednesday.

Mostofsky is the son of Shlomo Mostofsky, a prominent figure in the Orthodox Jewish community, elected to the court last January, according to Gothamist.

Texas woman flew on private jet to Washington, DC to ‘storm the Capitol’
Quote:
A real estate broker from Frisco, Texas flew on a private jet to Washington, DC, along with friends to “storm the capitol” on Wednesday.

Jenna Ryan, who is also a radio host, flew from the US Trinity Aviation in Denton, Texas all they way to the nation’s Capitol — where she had “one of the best days of my life.”

“Hopping on a plane heading to DC #MarchToSaveAmerica #stopthesteal,” she wrote in the caption of a photo on the tarmac.

The Trump supporter was also tagged in multiple photos on Facebook, where she is seen holding her luggage with a big grin on her face.

Ryan tweeted a photo with her pals aboard the jet.

“We’re gonna go down and storm the Capitol. They’re down there right now and that’s why we came,” the Texan said in a video clip.

The Capitol Police has an annual budget of $516 million and 2,300 police officers to handle a jurisdiction of.... 2 square miles.

And still a group of outer city roughnecks and landlocked dregs managed to not only storm the Capitol after preparing for it in plain sight... but even walk back out without getting arrested.

Last time I checked, Senate Majority Leader Q Shaman is still at large...

I don't understand this at all.
I mean, I get that that these people are Trump supporters who perhaps genuinely believe the election was somehow rigged against them, and are feeling outraged over that. So I can see they might feel the need to make a stand.
And maybe they got a bit caught up in the fervour of the crowd and got emotional, I can understand that too.
But I'm having trouble imagining what was in their minds as they scaled the walls and broke through police lines? What were they expecting to achieve? I mean, as a coup attempt it was a bit of a mess.
Was it all just done in a destructive rage, do you think? Or was there a genuine attempt to overturn the government behind it?
Do you think Trump was expecting there might be even more of them, and that he could somehow use them to say, "hey, we need to listen to these people, and their genuine grievance, and overturn the election results"?
Or does Trump not even realise that he caused this?
It's so weird to see something like this happening in a first world nation.
