I remember this day, but is it actually leading anywhere? Most participants do not seem to have been arrested.
It's also a bit funny that the US is freaking out of this given all the democratically elected leaders they've disposed over the decades just because they didn't like their policies. Remember Allende, anyone?
I believe that those who entered the capitol were mostly cannon fodder for an agenda we're still trying to get a grasp of. Their sentences recognize that; small fish, small sentences.
I don't find it funny; I find it frightening. We had no business interfering with other countries and power players in our country have no business trying to interfere with our democratic process. The track record with such actions, and how it turns out for the countries involved, is horrific.
While we're still trying to get a grasp of exactly what happened on January 6th and what the real, underlying plan was, it seems like some big power players wanted to wrestle the process out of the hands of voters who didn't vote the way they had wanted them to, and into their own hands.
I've been intrigued (and appalled) by one idea that has been floated, which I do sincerely hope is false: Trump may have been hoping counter-protest action by anti-fa would give him an excuse to impose martial law. It would explain many of the deep, structural changes to the defense department he had been making in the waning months of his presidency.
