Even if a corridor is opened and somebody agrees to take them Hamas won’t let them out. Yes, they elected Hamas but that was years ago. So despite all the factors that are not Israel’s fault I would be deciding to invade knowing my decision is going to kill and maim tens of thousands of innocents. And the invasion might fail. Hamas just proved they can do things that negates Israel’s military advantage. Why can’t they do it again? I'm also know if I do not destroy Hamas I will probably be lynched.

But I thought that the whole point of the corridor is to have a place cleared of Hamas fighters in order to allow the civilians to leave. Before the IDF informed them of the corridor, Hamas was blocking the roads to prevent them from leaving. The real issue is that 6 hours is not enough time for many people to flee.

Mostly to the southern part of the Gaza strip. I don't think there's enough space for them. Nonetheless, hundreds of thousands of them have evacuated, they don't have any other choice.

Egypt has not opened their border with Gaza and Israel is happy with that because they do not want Hamas fighters sneaking out with the civilians.

This thread began as follows:

The_Face_of_Boo wrote:
There are graphic footage elsewhere... gunmen in the middle of street of Israeli settlments and the Israel's army seems to be in confusion. A lot of civilian bodies in the street.

https://www.reuters.com/world/middle-ea ... 023-10-07/

This is an unprecedented attack in history.

I'm a bit confused by the original story.

Where were these Israeli "settlements" that got attacked?

I thought Israelis were called "settlers," and their towns called "settlements," only if they are illegally (by international law) located in occupied territories such as the West Bank.

But the linked news story sounds like these attacks were on Israelis in Israel proper.

So why the reference to "settlements" in the title and first post of this thread?

I would imagine this is the only bargaining chip HAMAS have short of being obliterated from the face of the earth. The thought crossed my mind they will want to move the hostages to a sympathetic Arab country outside of Gaza.

I agree with you...

Be careful because the conflict risks spreading enormously.

We need to immediately establish a peace table.

Absolutely.

It already has been bloody.

I doubt prayer would do any good considering that God was conspicuously absent when thousands of people, including MANY children, have died already, not to mention his general lack of involvement whenever anything awful is happening in the world (child abuse in its various forms, terrorism, the Holocaust, etc.). Assuming that he exists, which I don't in actuality, it would be strange for him to suddenly start giving a f**k now in this particular conflict.

People pray for a savior to come and straighten out the mess we have made of this sad world.
No one is coming to help us.
Only we can save ourselves , it seems we are unwilling to do that.

Obliterating HAMAS is next to impossible. Because HAMAS uses the entire population of Gaza as its human shield. Indeed thats part of the intent. To purposely goad Israel into creating collateral damage in Gaza on purpose to radicalize the population.

The only "sympathetic nation" would be Iran, a thousand miles away. Maybe Assad of Syria is "sympathetic" but he is only now barely able to consolidate control of his own country, and cant do favors for anyone else right now.

If only trump were president. He said if he were president this would have never happened. Same with putin invading Ukraine. This is what it's costing the world not to have donald trump as potus. Hopefully Biden's body double, that's being pupped by Obama, steps aside and allows the true winner of the 2020 election to restore peace in the middle east by reminding all parties involved that jared kushner made some sort of real estate deal that ended all of this nonsense. I'm sure they just forgot about whatever trump tower was proposed and all the jobs and tourism it's going to bring and as soon as trump is president again everything will be bigly tremendous again, again.

I guess I figure a little dark orange spray tanned humour is better than talking about a bunch of slaughtered kids. Not a lot any of us can do about it besides read some stats in the news and see what happens next.
