He abused his power to avoid vehicular homicide charges and he had a vendetta against gun owners. For me, that's a lot to atone for, which he never did do.

What annoys me is that some people think that because Ted Kennedy accomplished so much in the senate that it somehow makes up for the fact that he murdered Mary Jo Kopechne. I'm sure her family and friends think otherwise.

Michael Jackson thinks the coverage of his death is a little much.

I don't know what you call it but even after he drove off that bridge she was alive for up to 2 hours down there. She might still be alive if he went for help instead of fleeing the scene to dry out.

Just like what we experienced in the Michael Jackson thread, and the "irrational respect for the dead" thread, I don't understand why it is that if I didn't have any respect for someone while they were alive, why anything should change once they die.

It's only going to sully his reputation and the name of his children, which i think is what people want when they continue to bash on a dead person's life.

From what I understand, Mary Jo left the bar drunk and just wanted to sleep. She got into the backseat of Ed Kennedys car and fell asleep. Ed Kennedy gets into his car and drives away, not knowing there was a women sleeping in the back of his car. Drives off the bridge and he did not know she was in the car.
I'm am not trying to say what he did was right but I can see where it would be called an accident.

Anyone know why they call Him Ted when his legal name has always been Edward?

Going off the bridge was an accident. Leaving a woman to drown is negligent homicide. If he had stayed and summoned help, then no charges would or should have been preferred. If a "commoner" did that he would be indicted and tried for involuntary manslaughter. A Kennedy merely had his license to drive suspended.

In the state of Massachussetts, leaving the scence of an accident is a serious matter. It could bring about criminal penalties.

Where did you hear that? The accident didn't go anything like that.

Ted is just a nickname for Edward like how Jack is for John or Bob for Robert or Dick for Richard. I don't really know why.

I understand Ted is a nickname for Theodore. I have never heard it used as a nickname for Ed. I have heard of the other nicknames.

I read years ago about the incendent. Thats just what I heard.
