It's disgusting how parents think they've the right to impose their unruly, undisciplined brats on the rest of society. It's hardly surprising that occasionally someone is compelled to act in this way.

And a bunch of blokes laughing at the top of their voices because they're attention seekers who love the sound of their own voice is perfectly fine is it? If this was a kid in double figures mugging someone I'd agree with you. However hard it is to control a screaming child - if it's not your kid, it's not your problem and it's not your place.

Smackdown topic

This reminds me of a situation in which my oldest daughter was slapped on the butt in 1978 by a childfree family therapist I was visiting for (of all things) parental issues. My NT daughter was acting out and WHACK!! I got the hell out of there, and as I was leaving, the therapist warned me not to tell anyone what had happened as I would not be believed. She was right.

Since no one was a witness, I felt like hitting the therapist, and warning HER she would not be believed if she reported me. Instead, I told her to f*** off.

Turned me off family therapy. :x

At any rate, a stranger has no reasonable excuse for striking anyone's child. If the child hadd bothered him and created a disturbance, he should have lodged a complaint. I am sure the staff would have been happy to help, and maybe the stranger Stephens would have been thanked or praised, not arrested. We all get angry and frustrated. It is how we respond as rational (I hope) adults that is the key to proactive problem solving.

I have been a mother for over 35 years and at no time have I condoned corporal punishment, having been on the receiving end of a strap or a slap by both school officials and parents.

For any child free persons here who are tempted to strike out, do the rest of humanity a favour: Do not care for children in any capacity. Thank you.

Awww, come on, they'd never do that, they're so far above the rest of us, so perfect, so infallable.

Then don't come over to my neighbourhood! There are these four little kids living next to my neighbour that go outside and disturb the peace. Even if it'll make my room all stuffy and hot, I close the windows to shut them out.

However, the stranger shouldn't have slapped the toddler. I know that crying, whining, screaming kids are so annoying that someone could be compelled to do something similar or worse, but that's not any excuse to do something to the kid.

That was a vicious thing the total stranger did.

it may have been more efficient to squirt a short burst of capsicum spray into the childs nostril to speed up the resolution of the matter rather than resorting to violence.
