I always wonder why people ignore half of Obama is white.
Perhaps because white people do too? Isn't it interesting that that white half 'doesn't count' because the other half is black? Interesting, too, because people reason he must have been treated like he was black growing up and in school and at law because that is the half white people react to, and the white half is disregarded as inconsequential, even though he was raised by white women? It is more telling of the American culture than it is of Obama.
I think it's more because Obama identifies himself as black, even though he is 1/64th black, 1/2 white, and 31/64 arab... people tend to ignore the 31/64ths Arab part of him as well...
ignore the 31/64ths Arab? Are you kidding me? You have analyzed his DNA and are passing it off as fact of his ancestry.
We all have a common ancestry if you believe in Adam and Eve then you know this.
And if you don't believe in Adam and Eve there are other explanations as well.
but saying you know his DNA breakdown and how many minuscule fractions of this or that he is 'composed' of is just making your assertions look ridiculous.

No. There is a reputable service which analyzes genealogies of presidents or candidates for president. They do it at every election and the stories always come out at that time. For instance, the service revealed that Barack Obama and Cheney are distant cousins.
yes, I agree that we all have a MRCA (most recent common ancestor) and none of us are too far from anyone else in the world from being related to each other. I was taught it was the European Crusaders saving the land of Jesus that spread their genes in the Middle East and Yankee sailors that genetically knit the Pacific Rim to the Europeans that made the gene pool relative, so to speak.

First what he does on fathers’ day is entirely up to him. Are you seriously suggesting that he can't deal with black issues at all, or attend church?
Secondly, if you read the speech is actually about absent fathers in general. It is just a fact that half of black American children grow up without a father. How many politicians would be courageous enough to address that issue head on? The guy can't do no right.
Many of these ‘teabagging’ nuts are implying that his healthcare reforms are only for the benefit of black people, which is completely false. It actually benefit people across the board including people that had a job, became ill and are now being royally screwed over.
Where is the real evidence that he doesn't work on issues across the board, and how is he any different from other politicians with his priorities?
The fact of the matter is most of the people protesting have zero experience of what they fear, and most of that fear comes from the 1950s insular cold war mentality, which has been a bread and butter of US politics for years and is only just starting to ebb away.
My word, you did fall for it
You use a lose definition of race, yet somehow it is unacceptable for him to identify as black and for most people to describe and think of him as black too. I don't see many white people with a white power tattoo across their face either. You are flip-flopping all over the place.
Is that a bow I see before me? Why yes it is the fail ship
Listen, I totally get you are only doing what anyone does, supporting your own self interest. Just do it more intelligently, I suggest.
I never heard such unqualified nonsense as those imply is was the poor that caused the economic crisis. Apart from anything else, so few of them are home owners. They just couldn't be further from causing the economic crisis on the scale of things.
It is BS attributing all the blame on Obama (at a very late stage I might add). If you want to know when deregulation of the banks really started on its coarse you will have to go back to Margret Thatcher. The Americans saw the opportunity opening up on the London markets, and was followed by deregulation in the States.
Human nature drives all things money wise, especially the big two: Greed and Fear. Even if the poor had the will they still would not have been able to do it. The economic crisis wasn't caused by any old debt, but bad debt repackaged as good debt. If we are going to blame someone on the retail/consumer side of banking (and I’m not necessarily saying we should). Then blame the middle class aspirations to live beyond their means, and the mini mansion generation. These were the people who were defaulting the big sums.
It is true the retail banking does not understand banking proper, but hen again banking proper did not understand what it was doing anyway.
Frankly there is no incentive for the poor to help out these whiners now, which I find quite amusing. Their game is different from the one that concerns the economic crisis and Middle America. It is not about idealism at all. Screwing people over who have been 'blackening' (no pun
) their name, is just poetic justice.

Most likely this is a planted story though since I hear his approval rating has dipped. This kind of thing makes politicans seem more real apparently.
Andrew Jackson was President, and he was not "presidential". He was a foul mouth stone-killer and a murder also.

He was also a badass. Prior to the Trail of Tears the Supreme Court ruled against Jackson in a famous court case. His response was, "They have made their ruling. Now let them enforce it." And so the Trail of Tears began.
Getting back to the topic at hand...am I the only one who thinks that this is less about what Obama thinks and more of the media making a big deal of every little word that comes out of Obama's mouth.? OMG! If Obama has a opinion like his favorite color or whatnot...we MUST inform the world!
Obama is free to think and express what he wants I just wish that the media would stop making his little opinions about the little things the front page story.
Exactly. Which is why I really haven't bothered to respond to the political posts in the thread. They're just not relevant to throw in here where the question is about his minor comments and not his politics. I'll save my politicking for a political thread.
I don't know what is worse though: The media reporting on this drivel or the fact that this is what the people want to hear about (or the media (a profit-driven entity) would not be reporting on this drivel). Is this what we have become? A nation of drivel-seekers? Gah.
<-- Glad to NOT be part of mainstream society
I can see why people see it has inapproprite but I also finding it refreshing that their is finally a president that pays atention to what the average citizen is thinking about instead of stuff that concerns the wealthy or big buisness he is the first web and popculture president.Instead of the constent stream of eldery presidents that can't even say the internet right and instead call it the internetz or interwebz.

I beg to differ. Our leaders should be the MOST sensitive to injustice and rude behavior, and should rub it in the faces of the transgressors in as public manner as possible, just like JFK did in the Cuban Missile Crisis.
To me this is Presidential (i.e. takes guts)
I dont think the issue has anything to do with race,But I see that everyone ignores the fact that obama is half white because the other half is black. It is odd that the Predominate culture group in america,WASP'S,that I am not considered alien because I maybe white but I am french canadian decent which besides me and my brothers and my parents are heavily catholic.Which is a scary Idea to WASP'S in even recent american history. If you want to know how I feel about race just look at my quote from bender.

Any two humans on the planet are distant cousins. We all have the same fore-mother as the mitochondrial DNA shows.
