Laura, did you actually read the thread before you posted? It was consensual by both the male and the female.

Wonderful, but you shouldn't blame bad things on AS.

Could someone please tell this 13 year old that he has two hands? Please?

See, this is what happens when parents don't talk to their children - children grow up not knowing what sex is or what masturbation is, and then when they find out about sex, they get overly horny and this happens.

Hell, I had a friend who was rediculously paranoid all the time, and so my other friend asks him, "Do you masturbate?" I sit there laughing, as if it were a joke, my friend asked, "What's masturbation?" We told him, he comes back the next day and says, "Well I feel a lot better." We had a laugh, but then again - that shouldn't happen.

Why don't they both get charged for raping each other? Or better yet, nobody gets charged with 'rape' at all because it's completely ridiculous? This guy is going to have the stigma of being a 'rapist' for the rest of his life and I don't think he's done anything wrong.

SuXEed, Jason, they only convicted him of statutory rape because of her age. He didn't actually rape her, as it was consensual. Personally, I think it's pretty bloody stupid, because it was consensual, and they were actually BOTH underage. By the same reasoning, as they were both underage, surely she could be convicted of raping him also, because legally he is considered too young to make an informed decision on the matter. It's an insane application of the law.

So even if he was only 1 month older than her, presumably he still would have been charged with statutory rape, regardless of their ages being close and it being consensual. I agree, it is ridiculous.

A far more appropriate response would be give both of these kids some sex education (teaching proper safe/responsible practices etc), as well as any psychological and counselling support that may be needed (if any).

I am really rather uncomfortable with the term "rape" being used to refer to consensual acts. That's not to say that eleven year olds ought to be having sex, but there's a huge difference between actual rape and a sex act our society has determined is inappropriate because of age. Age just isn't a reliable indicator of someone's mental state, comprehension of the risks of sexual intercourse, or ability to decide whether or not to participate. Admittedly, it's a lot more clear-cut at eleven than at sixteen, but it still bothers me. :/

I also felt that mentioning the kid's autism was irrelevant. Either they're contradicting their own sensationalizing of the case by using it to excuse his actions (which it doesn't anyway), or they're implying that that's something "those people" do, which is incorrect and journalistically irresponsible.

For people to label this boy as a rapist is awful. He will have to endure this throughout his life now. If what he did was consensual, then this dispute should have been kept completely private. As others have said, we suppress information pertaining to methods that can help stop these incidents. Is there something that bad about telling people that touching themselves helps alleviate sexual desire temporarily. People need to realise that while children remain ignorant in the throes of puberty, they are bound to experiment. People simply need to be educated about sex. I agree as well that Autism had little to nothing to do with this.

The Daily Mirror article: pregnant teenage girl with arse on couch smoking a fag, whilst her mother smokes heroin in the kitchen.....many words could describe that f****d up irresponsible scenario

I'm not in anyway condoning the act of - let's face it, someone who's TECHNICALLY a rapist - the boy, but the coward of a youg man should stick by her after leaving her with a baby to rear...with a drug addict grandmother to boot too.

What feels weird to me is that at that age, I was ready and willing. Now 18 years old seems to young.

this is a topic that i find alarming and i think that all responders may be missing a big point here.

i write this as a 34 AS male with a 4.5 AS son.

I think that because AS people fail to show any emotins then they are very frustrated.
we can feel love and lust and have these feelings, but to know how to persue someone whom we are in love with and demonstrate this to them is difficult as we do not know how to do it properly and we get frustrated and give up easily.
from chatting with others privately and from my own experience i have found that AS males have a tendency to develop innapropriate sexual relationships with others who may try and exploit them.
Aspie males want tto feel love and want to be shown love but because they are wored differently cant always "feel" it..the next best thing to showing love is to show an act of love...or a sex act....
as a tennager i developed but didnt maintain my relationships with females. i had plenty of sex with a lot of different females but in hindsight i was promiscuous because i was searching for the emoton of love that i fely but couldnt express properly..i felt by shagging a lot of women i was showing i could love and be loved.
i have read reports that a lot of As males are exploiuted by older homosexual males........and develop innapropraite sexual relationships with men to satisfy a need for expressing love.
this can lead to confusion in a lot of adolescent AS males.
I wonder just how many AS males out there are or were promiscuous.
i wonder if a chld without being able to show love as an emotion is forced to become prmoscuous to feel love.
this is a theory i have from discussions with others...0oi would alue any input fro others, especially parents of aspie teens.

There was an uproar in Ireland recently when it changed its statutory rape law.

Its just teenagers experamenting this is rediculous and hardly a crime. Her ein Australia the Age of Consent is 16 or 17 depending on the state but there is a close in age exemption so this kind of thing is deemed ok. In Victoria if a person is between 10-16 it is ok as long as there is no more than two years difference.

UK law says that anyone under the age of 13 is unable to give consent period. Those between 13-15 also are deemed too young to consent but a partner has a defence if they beleived the person was overage and also the penalties are less.

If this was rape, he should be executed.

I don't think that 13 year olds can make these kind of decisions either, saying that anyone under 13 in the UK can't make a consentual decision. Even as a female myself, I still think that both people should be investigated when someone reports an alleged rape. Instead of pushing all the blame on the 13 year old boy, they should be looking at the other side of the glass and investigate what the girl did (if done anything). They were probably friends and decided to experiment, since it's normal at that age to be curious; it's just a lot of the time people at that age don't know how to relieve those feelings (or when). I don't think it's as if the boy crawled through her window and just decided to do it to her; it was consensual sex, meaning that they both wanted it. I also agree that the boy shouldn't have to live a lifetime of being called a rapist, and it's totally ridiculous.
