There's a difference between animals as a special interest and animals as a main dish. Most Aspies love animals, but we are able to separate the animal from the meat or learn to love that which is not cooked. Personally I prefer the People Eating Tasty Animals route: when I see a cow, I dream of sirloin.

It actually started with the post about Hitler being an aspie and went from there. Let's just get back to topic.

I agree we should get back on topic, but you made the charge Obama has an exaggerated sense of self-importance and belief he's superior to everyone else. I only see that perception of him in Republican propaganda, not in reality. If anything, Obama's search for bipartisanship, in which he virtually lost a year in his agenda due to Republican obstinacy, proves he isn't saddled with this disorder.

His view of bipartisanship was his way or the highway, that is not bipartisanship and you know it.

No, I don't know it. For instance, he watered down health care reform for the sake of bipartisanship, when he knew better. That isn't your "his way or the highway."

Ahh yes, PETA again...

I've always known they were crazy, but anyone with any doubts should check out the number that Penn & Teller did on them on Bullsh!t, it's pretty conclusive.

agreed, if it were true that eating meat caused ASD, then the world would be overrun with ppl with ASD and NT's would be a minority..except in India.
Statisticly, this is an incredable load of BS.
However, Peta thought they could join the "find a cure for autism" bandwagon to suit their own agenda.
And a pathetic attempt at that.

Continue my anxiety or stop eating meat?

Hmnn, I'd keep my anxiety. I have lived with it my whole life. I'd rather continue eating meat. The other day I ate a super sandwich that contained cow, chicken, eggs, bacon and hamr , that's products from three different animals, and I loved the taste.

Is there not a case to sue them under Trading Standards laws or something? Surely "making up medical information" is a crime? I'm sure I've seen companies get busted for claiming things have "health benefits" when they don't. This should surely apply.

Just to be clear: MILLIONS of people eat meat. Most of them DON'T have Aspergers. Same as millions get vaccinated and millions don't have Autism. Ridiculous people.
haha, all the sorts of people that would be jailed if making up medical BS was a crime. From scientologists, to PETA to celebrities that sold out to anti-vax.

The article doesn't say anything about curing Asperger's or that the cause of such is from meat. You guys need to learn to read and stop thinking everyone is against you or after some miracle cure.

In fact, the article treats special interests in a positive light (albeit maybe only when they're related to animals...)

This.

I'm no fan of PETA but the only claim they actually imply is that vegetarianism improved his sleep and allowed him to discontinue a medication (and we have no idea what that medication was).

Nowehere in this quote do they state or even imply that Aspergers is caused by eating meat or cured by becoming vegetarian.

Really? I used to be a vegetarian and I felt like crap.

Not every person can handle being vegetarian. Some people REALLY do need meat. I personally was told by my doctor that I was healthier when I stopped eating meat, although that could be more to do with the fact that I used to eat rather a lot of meat and it contains a lot of fat... I don't know. There's other people though who try being a vegetarian and after two weeks they're half dead!

I have to say, I did read the article and it doesn't say anywhere that PETA are implying that cutting out meat is good for ALL autistic people. I do agree that they are weird though! (plus was it just me or does the kid with AS look REALLY unhealthy?)

I have been vegetarian for 2 months, and have never been a big meat eater. I still have all my AS symptoms though. I do feel better as a vegetarian, and I wish I had explored it years ago. It has also given me some new special interests too... I am starting to be very interested in vegetarian and vegan cooking. Anyone, even people who are omnivorous can enjoy tasty vegetarian curries, chillis, falafels, samosas, quiches, salads, smoothies, pasta, pizza, soups... the list goes on. :) .

He wasnt an actual vegetarian, though he didnt eat much meat. Back in the 1940s, people who ate little meat were considered vegetarians. He did eat sausages from time to time, and sometimes other types of meat such as stuffed pigeon.

Well, I was going to be rational about this, but some vegetarian/vegan Aspies have beaten me to it.

So I am going to be totally irrational about this.

Dear PETA:

F*** you, while I eat the horse you rode in on.

Love and kisses,

James.

P.S. Please send a copy of this to Jenny McCarthy. I can't be bothered, myself. And I'm too busy getting vaccinated.

Five-year-old Liam is from Fort Bragg, North Carolina. A few years ago, he was diagnosed with Asperger's syndrome (a type of autism), but ever since he went vegetarian, his anxiety has decreased and his behavior has greatly improved. Today, he takes no medication and sleeps like a baby! Liam really loves animals, and according to his mom, he "spends a pretty insane amount of time reading about them." Liam won't kill bugs or spiders. Instead, he scoops them up and puts them outside. What a gentleman! If you're lucky enough to come across this cutie patootie, you'll probably be greeted with the words, "Hi, I'm Liam Wilson. I'm 5 years old, and I'm a vegetarian."

Don't you just love PETA?

Actually, they might be on to something. I have gone vegan (still eat eggs and dairy but no meat except seafood) and am much healthier and have more stamina and energy than I did when I was eating it. Meat is practically junk food. It's full of fat, hormones and toxins with very little benefit to your body. You can get protein in better ways, iron too.

There is still a chance to be rational about it. If you click on the link, you'll see that nowhere does PETA make a link between Aspergers and meat eating. That was an assumption the OP jumped to. They merely make a link between vegetarianism and decreased anxiety, increased positive behaviour and healthier sleep in a child with Aspergers Syndrome.

The article implies that the medication he was taking had something to do with aspergers. It seems to me that rather than jumping to my conclusion, the article led me to the conclusion that moving to a vegetarian diet will lessen the symptoms of aspergers.
