I never understood this. We always had gay personnel in NZ military and never caused a hassle. I think one of them is a Lt Colonel or equivalent.

well, yeah... but american politicians have to profess belief in "american exceptionalism." which is to say, we live in lala land and god supports our favorite sports team.

or something equally ridiculous.

what's somewhat worrying is that, of this thread, inuyasha and john_browning are actually representative of the views of a sizable portion of our countrymen. NZ isn't the only country to have had openly serving homosexuals in their military for years without having any real problems from it. you'd think this would be comforting to people like inuyasha and jb, but it's not.

there's more than one reason for that, certainly, but it's hard to ignore the elephant in the room...

The greatest warriors in history were the Spartans. And their method of training and combat solidarity was squarely based on homosexual relations between the fighting men. Homosexuals were some of the best hoplites ever fielded.

And THE greatest soldier and war leader of all time, Alexander the Great, was a homosexual.

Should of happened a lot sooner. The soldiers that don't like it can just find a different job. This wouldn't be accepted in any other line of work. Any problems from gay or straight soldiers can be dealt with on an individual basis.

If I may say this, there are all sorts of fears & prejudices about people whether it was back in the 1900's with the Chinese whom build the railraods, The Africans whose blood & sweat through slavery brought about a great deal even nowadays with the Hispanic people whom try to seek out an existence, i.e People should just try to exist alongside one another for, there is only one planet we're all one..
Lastly, glad to see that we're starting to get out of the Dark Ages gradually...
