And how many of those weeping were paid and/or coerced?

I guess all of them were coerced because I don't see how it's possible for someone to feel that way towards a psycho like Kim.

When a seemingly permanent factor of one's life is suddenly gone, grief is a very natural response. Many Russians wept when Josef Stalin died, even though they had been victimized by him. They simply couldn't conceive of a world without The Chairman. Many of the people who wept for FDR back in April of 1945 didn't love him, but he was a major element in their life.

If one fine morning the sun did not rise, would you be upset?

If Kim Jong Un takes after his father just news sources have let on then one way of getting rid of him would be by ensuring that lots of Foie Gras and other artery clogging gourmet food to N. Korea under the guise as 'gifts'.

Did those people react that way because they were coerced? You can argue that Stalin did some good things for Russia, but what good did Kim do for NK?

Even Soviet citizens in the gulags wept when they had learned Stalin had died.
On the other hand, few Germans cried by the time Hitler died, very probably because they were too concerned with just trying to survive in a devastated, occupied country - which most by that time had realized Hitler had brought about.

I came here to post that.

His personality cult has been so ingrained into North Koreans from birth, and all through upbringing and the school, that this entire generation of North Koreans will never ever realize they've been idolizing their own jailer the entire time.

I'm not sure what can be done, other than rotate the entire population of NK into south. Give everyone the opportunity to live in Seoul for a year. Watch TV. Surf the Internet. That would open their eyes. But it can't be done.

I think this is the correct answer. Kim Jong il was a leader of a state sponsored cult...people are unable to think for themselves..they are cut off from the outside world and constantly mind-f**ked through their media. When he died, his media said that he died over being overworked helping his people. :roll: But they have no choice but to believe it is true. Mind control is very powerful...if they have nothing to reference their situation to, how do they know their leader is a cruel dictator when the media is always telling them how wonderfuly he loves them??
He has always presented himself as a god to them. Even though he was cruel to them, he was still their god...now their god is dead, They weep out of the uncertanity to come...right now they feel totally disconnected as the one person that held their beliefs, culture and way of life is suddenly no more.

The only way for them to be free is to realize the cult for what it is...but the media and the government wont let that happen....the transition to Un will be seamless as the people are looking for something to piece them back together...no matter how badly they suffer, they dont believe it is caused by him, but by "outside forces" .
Any weakness on his part to fix their economy and the famine was blamed on outside forces. They had no choice but to believe him.

You know, I just heard on Kieth Olbermann (now on Current TV) that according to North Korean propaganda, Kim Jong Il never urinated or defecated!
No wonder he died. :lol:
