hmm.

I still think that while executing Saddam is a good thing, it will be a reversal problem that will cause things to destabilize even further.

President Saddam Trial. UNITED NATIONS Press Release

UNITED NATIONS
WORKING GROUP ON ARBITRARY DETENTION
REITERATES CONCERNS REGARDING
SADDAM HUSSEIN TRIAL

**snip**

"In its second and final Opinion (N° 31/2006), rendered on 1 September 2006, the Working Group concluded that the deprivation of liberty of Mr. Hussein is arbitrary, being in contravention of Article 14 -- on the right to fair trial -- of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR), a binding international treaty, to which both Iraq and the United States are parties. The Opinion set out a series of grave procedural flaws, such as, amongst others, the lack of independence and impartiality of the tribunal, which heard the case, the lack of respect for his right to have adequate time and facilities to prepare his defence, the restrictions on his right to access to defence lawyers and on the possibility to obtain the attendance and examination of witnesses on his behalf.

"In this context the Working Group invited the Governments of Iraq and the United States to consider whether a trial of the former Head of State in conformity with international standards is at all possible under the current conditions in Iraq, or whether the case should rather be referred to an international tribunal.

"The Working Group clarified in its Opinion that it does not request the release of Mr. Hussein. What it recommends to the two Governments is that the serious procedural shortcomings are redressed and that the situation of Mr. Hussein be brought in conformity with the principles of the Universal Declaration on Human Rights and with the provisions of the ICCPR.

"The Working Group also urges the Iraqi Government to refrain from carrying out the sentence of death by hanging imposed in a proceeding, which does not meet applicable basic standards of a fair trial.

"The text of the Working Group's Opinion 31/2006 will be available after the publication of its annual report to the Human Rights Council".

I think that it is ironic that Bush is trying to convince the American public and the world that we are hoping to set up a democracy in Iraq. Yes, I think that Saddam should be tried. Yes, I believe that he will probably be convicted. And while I am not a huge fan of capitol punishment, I think that Saddam probably deserves it. This being said, I don't understand how the U.S. can support trying him in what I believe was a kangaroo court? How can we justify keeping our troops in harm's way if we are going to support a legal system that is such a farce? It really makes me sad that the U.S. is condoning this.

IMHO. I don't think it will make a difference. it wasn't Saddam telling the insurgents to attack and everything. if he dies, well then it's gonna bring in a lot more recruits.

From what I understand from my cousin, the insurgents are starting to get really desperate. It is a clear sign that they are losing. If we could get the Iraqies to start defending itself that would make things a whole lot easier.[/quote

You cannot defend against terrorism. If I wanted to (WHICH I DON'T), I could be a terrorist.

ANYONE

could.

Keep dancing monkey.

Personally, I don't give a rats arse about the Kurds, Iraqi's in general or Saddam in particular, but can't you see you are being lied to by your elected representatives and the media?

(Don't get excited Malanitwist, I think your media posts are just as biased).

If the UN cared about genocide and despots, why doesn't it do something about Zimbabwe or any number of other places?

Can we disagree with each other without resorting to namecalling?

BTW manalitwist - before you get excited- don't think that I don't know you have namecalled in other threads.

Wy can't people just behave between eachothers instead of inventing new cool ways of slaughtering devices?

Some of the viruses, for example whinter stomach flu, tilts your internal system inside out with a 10 viral infection. Yes 10 virus molecules. And they multiply in a rate like MACH IV. Then when the bodys handling of the virals has recognized something is wrong and taken action, you get a reverse action because the body simply kills some of the nessecary bacterial flora too, just to be sure :-)

But I have a very hard thing to understand israeli military forces using cluster bombs, and yelling at the palestines for their home made rockets they actually defend themselves with. Some of the israels are quite clever, and I use israeli radio equipment I simply love due to a very clever usage of DSPs in them. It's almost as weird as the falkland islands war.

I'm not a pacifist, mostly. But does some idiot threat my kids I will defend them. I never understood people being stupid and killed until I got three of my own.. Because them I'll happily spill my life for if needed.

I got the phyciacrists baffled when I explained why I have four attempts of suicides, which simply no longer is a option because I must live to take care of my kids. I can't se the point they seem to have, that I would be suicidical and locked up, when I have three very good reasons to stay alive???
