I wish someone would do just that and make it work. There's too much gold-digging with these wrongful death suits.

I disagree. I believe that close to 100% of the population has what it takes to kill, if put in the right (or wrong, depending on how you look at it) situation.

How they deal with it, however, is another matter. For example, I could be walking to school and accidentally get run over by a bus and get killed (not that I'm looking forward to it). Now, do you think the bus-driver wanted to kill me? Depends, but in many cases, of course not.

I am going to sue this site. I have posted many times here about how much I love chocolate cake, yet did anyone here bother to contact the proper authorities to warn them how much I love chocolate cake? No, they did not, and because of that, I suffered a severe stomach ache.

I demand money.

I forgot the site to link to, but in California (it's my understanding the suit was filed in Orange county) You cannont sue third parties for things posted on internet sites.

The suit will be dismissed in pre-trial hearings. BET ON IT!! !

However, just thinking through the principles, if family of an adult can be held resoponsible for damages a son caused, then parents of bullies must also surely be able to be sued for pain and suffering by the bully's victims
Victims of under-age bullies must have a stronger case since the parents should be accountable for a higher level of supervision.

Even if it got to trial, I don't believe the courts would want to set this sort of precedent.

William Freund (c. 1986 – October 29, 2005) was a nineteen year old male who donned a cape and paintball mask and went on a shooting rampage in the city of Aliso Viejo, California. He shot and killed two people before going home and killing himself with a shot to the torso. Before going on the rampage, he is said to have posted his plans on the online Asperger's Syndrome message board wrongplanet.net. He also posted on the Something Awful Forums under the alias "forbiddenforum" asking for information on where to buy Hevi-Shot ammunition. Forum members responded with information, then derision as he claimed that he was going to be shooting at people attempting to vandalize his Halloween pumpkins. The thread was closed a few days before his shooting spree. He also posted on AnandTech but never commented on suicide or his plans to kill. He was a computer expert who, according to his employer, kept to himself and severely lacked social skills.

Before his shooting spree he had asked several people for advice on how to avoid being institutionalized as well as offering to pay people for the real names and addresses of channel operators in IRC channels that banned him.[1]

During the famous post on the Something Awful Forums William Freund mistakenly used "puckins" in place of the word "pumpkins" as a typo or misspelling. As is the way of these forums, some of the members who responded in the thread also used the word "puckins" intentionally in an apparently innocent but mocking sense. Because of this repetition and focus on this misspelling, the fame surrounding the events of October 29, 2005, and the numbers of people in the public who read the specific pertinent post on this board because of news broadcasts identifying it, the word "puckins" entered the world of famous Internet lexicon words. It is most often used when a person believes the person they are referencing is mentally ill or mentally unstable to the point of violence, and wishes to signal this to others without letting the identified person directly know.

ALISO VIEJO, Calif. - A 19-year-old in a black cape and a paintball mask went on a shooting rampage Saturday in his upscale Southern California neighborhood, killing a man and his daughter before committing suicide, authorities said.

William Freund also fired shots into another house and confronted a neighbor outside, said Orange County Sheriff's Department spokesman Jim Amormino.

A neighbor said Freund had attended high school with one of the victims, but police don't believe the two knew each other.

"It may have been random," Amormino said.

Freund left his home about 9 a.m. and drove less than 100 yards to a house where he killed Vernon Smith, 45, and daughter Christina Smith, 22, with a shotgun, Amormino said. A 20-year-old son escaped after hearing shots.

Freund then walked across the street and fired into another house, Amormino said. A person inside suffered cuts from broken glass.

Another neighbor heard the commotion, came outside and was confronted by the teen, who tried to fire his weapon. When it misfired, Freund went back to his own house and committed suicide, Amormino said.

Neighbor Katherine Anderson, 15, said Freund and Christina Smith had attended Aliso Miguel High School together.

Anderson, whose older brother had given Freund a ride to school, described Freund as "a real quiet guy."

Other neighbors said Freund would sit in front of his house and play guitar for hours at a time.

Police tape blocked off much of the large subdivision in the hills above Aliso Viejo, a wealthy section of south Orange County.

Built in 1995, the neighborhood of mostly beige two-story homes was described by residents as a family community where people often socialized.

The Smith house was known for its holiday decorations, including multiple Christmas trees put up each season and a snow village in the bay window.

Not only will it cut off (currently) over 7,000 people's ways of communicating with the friendliest group of people who have an internet connection!

I read that some people reacted negatively and offensively towards his post(s). Perhaps we'll treat similar situations a bit differently now. Imagine if someone had said (jokingly or not): Yeah, why not - in 100 years it won't matter (or something to that half-encouraging effect). Sure, people are free to their own opinions, but they would be liable - which sucks completely. Do we need to hold our tongues from now on?
