Lance Armstrong is one of the greatest athletes whoever breathed. His VO2max rating ( the rate at which the body can process oxygen) is one of the highest ever measured (not the highest) but Armstrong is in the 99 th percentile. He is frakking Superman.

See http://www.topendsports.com/testing/records/vo2max.htm

And you too can be Superman with the correct cocktail of EPO, transfusions and anabolic steroids.

Armstrong was measured by medical personal who checked his blood out. Besides non of the above drugs can boost VO2max to the levels Armstrong was scientifically measured at. Armstrong's athletic superiority is just a biological fact about Armstrong. He is frakking Superman. Perhaps his ancestors came from Krypton.

Don't be stupid--that's precisely one of the effects of both EPO and transfusion.

Your passion in his defence is both admirable and misguided. You, who are normally so rational, are allowing yourself to be deluded by your own romanticism.

When he was examined for reasons of medical research, his blood was checked so there would be no bias in the results. L.A. is a genetic freak of nature. He is Superman. I suspect his ancestors came from Krypton.

Well, Kryptonian or not, this particular individual has now been stripped of all of his results since 1998.

This is unfortunate.

1. Most of the bikers dope themselves, so the race is on an "even playing field"
2. No medical test has ever shown that he doped himself, definitively. All they have is hearsay evidence
3. By medical measurements done by doctors, Lance as one of the highest VO2 ratings ever measured. He is a super-athlete.

He may have been stripped off his titles, but he is the best biker of the lot.

1. True. But being the best among rule breakers still makes you a rule breaker.
2. False. He most certainly did fail tests--that was part of the evidence that USADA had. Additionally, the French have samples from 1999 that also tested positive.
3. True--but since EPO and transfusion will artificially raise VO2 max, he's not so much a super athlete as a chemically augmented rule breaker.

What's the point of being the best biker of the lot when the lot are a bunch of cheats?

I do not know for certain if he did or did not use performance-enhancing agents, but it does seem rather odd he has given up fighting for his medals, title, and most importantly - his reputation. Why would he simply "roll over and take it" and lose his charity, medals, title, and dignity? If evidence does emerge proving he cheated, it wouldn't surprise me, given that use of steroids and other so-called "performance-enhancers" is seemingly so prevalent in the sports community.

Where are the actual results of any blood screenings performed by a trained and licensed medical professional?

Plenty of finger-pointing, but little or no valid empirical evidence.

No ... I think that there were just too many liars for Mr. Armstrong to take on all at once.

A grat man has lost his honor, his legacy, and his dignity ... such is the power of bullying.

Perhaps he is the victim of a witch hunt. It seems that way at least to me. I do agree that concrete evidence such as an actual scientific test that proved his guilt would be useful.

This just in ......
Keith Richards has been seen banging on the doors of a local bloodbank before they opened, demanding they open early. Passerby managed to calm Keef who kept mumbling that Lance knew a way to get high that he didn't know about.

Most of the bicyclists in the Tour de France were doping. So the race was on level ground, so to speak.

There are clinical studies of Armstron's biological functions (particularly heart and lungs) that prove he is a super athlete. His VO2 is one of the highest on record. I suspect he was born on the planet Krypton which makes him an illegal alien.

Tell that to the guy behind the peloton who wasn't doping. After all, "most," is not the same as, "all."

Your casual endorsement of cheating surprises me, ruveyn. While I never expect you to express compassion, I have always rather suspected that you were disposed to playing by the rules.

He's a liar and a cheat--and being Kryptonian excuses neither.
