I have a sizeable VHS collection, too- do you have eps of $ale of the Century?

No...my biggest "collection" is Fraggle Rock, actually--maybe two-thirds of the episodes from when they aired on TNT in the 1990s.

Blockbuster is just the latest victim in the decline of brick and mortar stores in general. Instead of going someplace to rent a movie, you can either subscribe to DVDs, or better yet, stream them online. This transition is a bit quicker with media and intellectual property (think the decline of bookstores), but will soon spread to more tangible goods. For example, Google is launching a shopping service in California that can get you ANYTHING in 24 hours or less, providing it's legal. The super-rich already live like this, and so will we.

Online sales account for less than 10 percent of U.S. retail sales, but they are skyrocketing. Soon, all but the most highly specialized goods will be bought online.

I just stopped by my local Blockbuster to check out it's clearance "sale".
I wasn't impressed. $8.99 for a used DVD at an "everything must go" clearance sale is kinda pathetic.
No wonder they are going out of business. They always charged too much.

I won't miss Blockbuster.

This video reminded me of this thread (and another bit of nostalgia):

Our local Blockbuster is still open here. I haven't been in there for a few years but I'm guessing they don't have a big weeklies/non-new release collection anymore since the shop is a lot smaller now.

RIP To the UK branch as well! Last store in my city closed a few months back :(

After entering administration for a second time Blockbuster (UK) is Closing all remaining stores

My local store became a Sainsbury's Local a few years ago, unfortunately my local (former) Odeon cinema has not had the same resurgence.

Went to the nearest open Blockbuster a few weeks ago with my brother Danny; paid our last respects to it, even though we didn't find anything we liked. Eh, what do you do?

My local independent video store has outlasted the local Blockbuster by a few years (and the local 5-screen cinema by over a decade).

The Blockbuster is now a supermarket owned convenience store (one of the many popping up accross the UK).

^Yep--which is kind of sad, in a way. The last brick-and-mortar place in my town shut down several months ago (not Blockbuster--a local rental store) and was replaced by an organic food market.
