Term limits that apply to all states. I can remember how Gingrich back in the 80's had had it out for my state's congressman and speaker of the House, Tom Foley, and so had Republicans working to fire up passions for term limits here in Washington. Foley got ousted without a change in term limits, but with term limits as the rallying cry. And yet, Gingrich never once called for term limits in his own state of Georgia. Unless term limits are instituted nationwide, they will only be used to hit elected leaders from rival parties.
And Gingrich was among the group of right wingers sitting in the lounge on the night Obama was sworn in for the first time.., sitting in the lounge conspiring to obstruct and block everything Obama and the Liberals do, destroy and rape ours economy and our country, and convince America that it is all Obamas fault. Seriously. Conservative politicians sitting together conspiring to sabatoge and loot the very people who elected them while spreading the 24/7/365 lie that all the bad stuff in the world and America is Obamas fault and if we can just get him out of the way things can go back to being the way they were in Leave It To Beaver days. (white man rule)
I hadn't known Gingrich wad been part of that little cabal, since he was no longer an elected official, but it figures.
The right's racism used to be something that they were even ashamed of, and would try to hide under code words, but since Obama's election, all along with the changing racial demographics, that racism is becoming more upfront and emboldened. Rush Limbaugh is calling the Affordable Care Act "reparations," in order to appeal to racist white's sense of resentment. And so on, and so on.
So lets say by some miracle Herman Cain had been on the 2012 Republican ticket and had been elected as president. Would any criticism of him by the left have been racism? It sure seems so but I'm sure their would be some rationale from the left to make it all good.
If the policies of a Cain Presidency were questioned simply for the political motivation behind them, then obviously no, there's nothing wrong with that - no more than legitimate criticism toward Obama's policies are. But race comes into the subject, such as when Rush Limbaugh and other conservatives accuse the Affordable Care Act of being reparation payment for blacks hidden under a new name, or when birthers question the President's birth place because of his skin color. If the Democrats were ever to make obscene attacks on a black Republican President, then that would be just as inexcusable as what certain right wing Republicans are attacking Obama with.
Hmmmm....well I voted for McCain in the '08 elections (I sure as hell didnt brag about it, either) and was told by more than one liberal that I was a racist for not voting for Obama. I'm glad you liberals listen to Rush Limbaugh. Maybe you'll benefit form it. I don't listen to him but I always find out what he's recently said from the liberals.
I don't believe for a minute that everyone who voted for McCain is a racist. But to be sure, there were racists who had voted for McCain simply because they didn't want a black man in the White House.
And I don't listen to Rush Limbaugh; rather, I get clips of Limbaugh and other right wing hate jockeys from legitimate news sources.

The criticism of Herman Cain has nothing to do with race. He is simply a joke. A moron. And I am sure that you discounted all of the sexist claims made against him but you believed every sexist claim made against Bill Clinton.
I still recall quite vividly how Cain had said, if asked "who the Prime Minister of Uzbeki-beki-beki-stan is, I'll say, I don't know."
Or when asked a question about policy by a reporter, Cain's response was, "9,9,9!"
Like Palin, Cain seemed proud of his ignorance.

You don't think that some voted for Obama because his opponents in both elections were white? Some white conservatives are racist but they have political opposites that are at least equally racist. Liberals tend to conveniently forget or deny that.

I think you misread what I wrote. I said some voted against Obama for racial reasons, but I don't believe all did.

I didn't misread it and I think you know that. I think you're just avoiding the assertion that some liberals are also racist.

Okay, I get it - I'm the one who misread you.
Sure, there are racist liberals, but I don't know of liberal hate jockeys like Limbaugh who encourage racial hatred in public - we're the ones who are denigrated for being so politically correct, after all. Even Al Sharpton - formerly known as a racebaiter - has reinvented himself and befriended plenty of whites now that he has broken into the mainsteam. Sharpton credits the late MLK's widow for reexamining his rhetoric and prejudices.

Those sanctions were co-written by Sen, Robert Menendez and last time I checked, he was a democrat. Also the decision to block out all the amendments, thus denying any chance to debate stiffer sanctions on Iran’s nuclear program, was Harry Reid’s, so doesn’t he share some culpability? Why the need to frame every story as Dem vs. Republican, except to prod the herd. There's enough blame here to go around.

I have not said anything about whether I would approve of further sanctions against Iran (I don't as long as Iran stays at the negotiation table), just that sanctions against Iran have no reason to be in a veteran benefits bill, which is the reason given by the Republican party for their continued obstructionism. There is a different bi-partisan draft legislation (where Menendez is a co-sponsor) that attempts to impose further sanctions on Iran, and if that one had been the one killed, I would be just as critical of those responsible. But that draft legislation is much further behind than the recently killed bill was. Which means best case scenario, 4-6 months to clear the Senate alone (which seems highly unlikely in an election year).
In this specific instance, however, it was the Republican party that killed the bill over Iran sanctions. Hence the title of the thread. So go tell your favorite veteran that they don't deserve better until there are some new sanctions on Iran.
If you want to discuss Iran sanctions, please start a different thread in the PPR section and I will post on it there.
