and you both continue to tell me how i should be more concerned about effectiveness than feeling safe away from men, because supposedly you know better than i what should concern me as a female survivor of sexual assault.

yeah you're right, mansplaining definitely doesn't apply here.

so,what about other women, this is not about you, this is
about women defending themselves, and I've showed
video evidence,of women,doing just that.If you
don't want to do martial art with guys, that fine,
but don't act like what I say is ineffective.
I stand by this, women need to join legit
martial art school, where they can spar
or roll against partners, male or female,if they want to
defend themselves.

So far, I see a complete lack of empathy and sympathy for starvingartist from you two. She had explained why she shies away from coed martial arts classes because of the terrible thing that had happened to her, and you seem to consider that fact inconsequential.

Show me where I told you what you should be concerned about, as opposed to pointing out some of the reasons that co-ed self defense classes might be a better bet for useful training.

Take your time, I'll wait.

Since we're not having one of those toxic twitter fights that modern feminism is so inexplicably fond of, yes, you can keep your make believe word, though I must note the hypocrisy in throwing such a gendered term around when you'd doubtlessly object to being treated in kind.

I'm sorry, did I miss the part where this was in The Haven, and she was asking for sympathy/empathy? Last I checked, this was News, and she was attacking other members and then claiming tragic personal circumstances as having given her expertise that she does not have, like someone who's calling themself a knife expert on the basis of having been stabbed.

Like her, you're missing the point entirely, that I'm not arguing that women only self defense classes are a bad thing or discriminatory or that they should go away, what I'm arguing is that they might give a false sense of security, and providing examples of why I think that. To my mind, if you want to treat a self defense class as a confidence building exercise after a traumatic experience, that's fine, but don't call it a self defense class at that point, call it a bridge to taking a realistic class, otherwise you're just walking around with a cap gun thinking it's real, until you find out it's all bang and no bullet.

I think good manners can exist outside of The Haven threads (yes, I concede I need to live by that, myself). And considering that she has a legitimate reason to shy away from coed classes, I would think you and Brock Lesnar would show a little more kindness in your responses, considering what she had experienced, and still make your points.

So I should treat her differently than everyone else because she's been victimized? Aside from the fact that she only volunteered that several posts in and that my tone is no harsher than hers, possibly less even, don't you think it's a bit sexist to suggest that she's a delicate flower needing to be treated with kid gloves? If the positions were reversed, I'd consider that pretty condescending, and one of my personal rules of posting is to not behave in a manner I would not appreciate in others.

In a matter concerning something as awful as sexual assault, yes.

starving artist has a valid point: women who have been assaulted probably wouldn't be too comfortable rolling with men even if they were in a safe environment. I'm not sure why this is such a point of contention.

Actually, the best self defense is a loaded .357 on your hip that you are trained to shoot.
