Well, there are a lot of people for whom their firearm is party of their hobby. I don't think you should take away all guns from responsible people just because one idiot does something stupid with them. Same for alcohol. Some people become violent idiots when they drink, but why should I not be allowed to drink?
Also, firearms are usually needed for hunting. Hunting is pretty much required around here because of the wild boars. If they overpopulate, they come too close to the cities and they can be pretty dangerous and destructive.

If a shotgun is cut down small enough to fit into a nightstand drawer it's illegal under federal law unless registered and taxed in accordance with the NFA.

I'll just talk about the "take away" part of this. For all practical purposes, it's logistically and lawfully impossible to just take them away.
It would mean;
1. Getting enough politicians to go along with it, most of which will be committing career suicide come next election
2. Going door to door and hitting sporadic and sometimes well organised armed resistance and ambushes. Yep, that will happen.
3. Having the resources to do #2 and a means for routing and destruction

I could go into more detail but this is close enough, considering we've been over it and over it in the past.

I know. Stupid law. You can buy a taurus judge, but you cannot saw off a .410.

"The Second Amendment (Amendment II) to the United States Constitution protects the right of individuals[1][2] to keep and bear arms.[3][4][5][6] The Supreme Court of the United States has ruled that the right vests in individuals, not merely collective militias, while also ruling that the right is not unlimited and does not prohibit all regulation of either firearms or similar devices.[7] State and local governments are limited to the same extent as the federal government from infringing this right per the incorporation of the Bill of Rights."

In order to rule that it's permissible to regulate firearms, the SC would first have to acknowledge that it is a right to have them.

If the 2nd Amendment should only apply to firearms available when the constitution was ratified, then we can also apply that to the 1st amendment and have it only apply to means of communication that existed in the late 18th century. That would mean only verbal communication, hand written text, or text printed with an old fashioned Gutenberg type printing press.

When these draconian laws you think you want fall on their asses, in effect, you want to protect yourself from those who didnt comply with a sword?

The RPG (apparently the only shoulder fired rocket that you anti-gunners have heard of) is a destructive device regulated by the National Firearms Act (NFA).
You can own a tank. A working main gun and machineguns are NFA items.

Technically, how much of a difference is there between hunting rifles and shotguns and the icky "assault rifles" that you want to magically get rid of in your next sentence?

Do you know what your talking about when you say "assault rifle"? We're talking definitions here, not sorcery or fear of goblins.
Whatever they are, what evidence is there that they are a "public health hazard"?

In another thread you were all fired up about what may or may not be happening to Ukrainian Jews and wanted to go over there and take up the fight for your fellow Jews. How so without firearms and other deadly weapons, besides swords and guns with "little clips?
Or were you just going to run up and slap the enemy with your little yarmulke?

Maybe you should come back when you;
• Learn a little about the constitution
• Learn current firearms law and maybe a little case history
• Learn some firearms terminology

That would at least be a good start.....

The right to bear arms???

Would that be a black, grizzly, polar, or panda bears arms?

I don't think you can posess panda bear arms. I think they are endangered.

It is not a clip, it is a magazine. Assult rifles are fun. I have a 10-22 that is just if not more accurate. When I was 9 my first was a single bolt 22, I could reload about once every 3 seconds, and hit what I was aiming at every time. I can tell there are not too many real outdoorsman writing in this thread. Just like the politicians who have a problem with it, you should grow up with it, you should go do it. I just ate my last venison steak two weeks ago, and I need more. I saw a turkey three days ago, and it looks good to me. You people gonna make me throw rocks at the dang thing or something?

Why is it, Bill, that whenever someone makes a particularly ill informed, poorly reasoned, or provably false statement on here, you always seem to be first in line to agree with it?

If you want me to make you look even less informed, I can go further back to when the rates of violence were even more eye popping, but hopefully that won't be necessary.

Look! It's the CAR talking point! Yay! I love this old BS canard.

You shouldn't try and be clever, it's clearly not your strong suit. Now, to get to it:

Bodyles wrote:
1. Guns are WEAPONS DESIGNED TO KILL. That's all they're made for, to kill. They're continually being redesigned to kill more accurately, quickly, and at longer range. They're KILLING MACHINES.
2. Cars are TRANSPORTATION DEVICES. They're made to help people move quickly from oone place to another. They're specifically designed & continuouslly redesigned to reduce the risks associated with their use.
3. If someone points a gun at me and shoots, there's nothing I can do but hope they're a bad shot or I get lucky. You can't dodge a bullet. You can't run from one. They point & shoot, you die. It's that simple.
4. If someone tried to run me over with a car I can get out of the way, dodge, turn around & go the other way, jump a wall or fence, etc. That's because unlike guns, they're not designed to be effective killing machines.

Apparently, reading comprehension/basic reasoning are not your strong points either, as you've completely missed my rather clear point, which is that while it does require a gun to shoot someone, that in and of itself is meaningless, like proving that no one gets run over in the absence of cars, or that people who don't keep alligators as pets are less likely to be eaten by them.

Bodyles wrote:
Tell you what though. I'd be willing to get rid of every single car in this country if we did the same with all the guns.
I love my car. I have flat feet & bad knees, and walking a lot hurts no matter what I do.
Still, to get rid of the hundreds of millions of machines in this country whose sole design goal is to give people the ability to kill more quickly, easily, and efficiently, I'd give it up and deal with the pain.

Well, we can cross critical thinking off the list of things you might be good at, as even a cursory thought or two directed here pokes some pretty big holes in your "bargain", the most glaring being that you're willing to trade the device that enables our entire way of life and allows millions of people to live through the rapid transpiration of people and resources against a tool that is used in roughly 10,000 murders per year, many of which would occur even in the absence of guns. While we're negotiating, can I perhaps interest you in some ocean view property in Nevada?

Bodyles wrote:
Comparing devices designed to kill & which in fact are quite effective in doing so with transportation devices which would be ridiculously inefficient in comparison for that purpose is a ridiculous, intellectually dishonest comparison meant to distract from the fact that it's easier in many places in this country to buy a gun, a machine designed only to kill and nothing else, than to buy a pack of smokes or a beer.

Again, read what I actually said, no mention was made of using cars as weapons, you're just (poorly) tilting at straw.

We have refuted every "argument" you've made, repeatedly, over a period of years, in the threads that Raptor linked. We go through this every time some new ignorant anti-gunner shows up and launches the same tired arguments we've been dismantling since 2007 and 2008, respectively, and we're both weary of repeating ourselves. I'm a gunsmith, he's an RSO, between the two of us we've seen and heard it all in the anti-gun arguments department, and we've yet to encounter either a credible argument or an anti-gunner who had the slightest idea what they were talking about. For a guy making demands that people address his "points", you're notably light on them, not having cited a single fact in your entire screed, just a lot of ALL CAPS HYPERBOLE comprising your opinions, and they're not even particularly original opinions. I've spent pages deconstructing the 'what guns are designed for' thing alone, and as the only person on this site possessing a degree that includes gun design, I can speak fairly authoritatively on the subject. What were your qualifications again, aside from a fondness for the capslock key of course?

This is fun!! You gotta give us gun lovers more ammo!! Bodyles... you are correct. Guns are made to kill, and it is the best machine to do it next to explosives. It is a very useful, and practical tool. Some are works of art, family heirlooms, pieces of history, and marvels of metallurgy. As far as all the "People" killing weapons out there, you can thank the military for that one. If any bodies of government wants to decrease the amount of killing people, they will need to loose military, and militant workers. They will need to use non lethal weapons in the police force. First. before I loose mine. You should know that is not going to happen. For some reason, large groups of people in governments, and militias around the world need to kill people for some reason or another. I come from a very old american family, and I know the reasons why we keep our tools. Because others can use them against us. Especially governments. Personally, I don't care about all that. I eat meat, and aside from bying a cow, pig, or chicken at the store, it is the best way to get it. And it is real meat. Made by mother earth. As fresh, natural, and untainted as you can get it. I know where it has been, and it tastes wonderful. Furthermore, I would like to add that there is a whole lot more killing going on without guns, then with them. People generally use whatever they can get their hands on. Preferrably something quiet. Unless they want to kill themselves, or defend themselves. then they get as loud as they... don't care.

Now that anyone with access to a 3-d printer can just make a firearm I'd say the gun control debate is effectively over. There's just no way you could possibly police or monitor the market at this point.

Now the bullet control debate, on the other hand, is going to be the debate of the future-- especially since the constitution makes no mention of ammunition, only the arms to use said ammunition. Besides, guns don't kill people, ammunition does...

and tbh, I don't care either way. It's mainly the dregs of society killing the dregs of society anyhow. Sure, some innocent people and children get caught in the cross hairs once in a while but it's all population control and I do believe in population control.

The point being, don't handle something that requires your full attention to use safely if you're medicated and it affects your ability.

Driving, shooting, climbing, and whatnot. It's all the same.

Koalas aren't bears, thus the right to "bear arms" doesn't cover koalas. It's drop bears that you're after. :P
