He's released documents and if there is nothing to the case then it being settled after the election doesn't really help Trump clear up his name with is wrongly being dragged thru the mud on this. Like Trump said, he could settle this at any time he wants.

You're right, they shouldn't be loans, they should be grants.

I think they should be dischargeable in bankruptcy, it's not right that they can essentially put a child into debt slavery for the rest of their lives for a degree that may never get them a job. Educational debt with dischargeable up until 1976, makes a lot of sense when you see how education inflation has so outpaced any other sectors of the economy. And this debt is over 90% held by the federal government.

Just because someone is running for office doesn't mean they can't be the subject of a civil suit. Trump has been drudging through the mud the entire time he has been involved in presidential politics and probably even longer but the corporate media has been showering him off continuously and he's still coming off as a sleaze.

And if you look at the student loan issue, I'll bet you'll find Republicans to be the source of the problem. At least Obama tried to do something by taking them out of the hands of for private banks and creating the student loan forgiveness program.

And yes student loans should be dischargeable. I don't think you'll find many people who disagree on that.

I think you'd find plenty of blame to go around, I think you'd probably find more Republicans believing that a student's ability to pay back the loan should be taken into consideration than you would Democrats.

Clinton is under criminal investigation by the FBI, big difference between that a frivolous civil case that can be settled any time.

Doesn't the suit by the Attorney General of New York allege fraud?

By the way, many years ago a company I worked at was run out of business as a result of fraud by a company that owed us a lot of money and didn't want to pay it off. Our lawyers said that we would almost certainly win the lawsuit and the owners of the other company would likely go to jail if we could ever get the lawsuit in court. Since we didn't have the minimum of $1,000,000 to see it through court, it never made it through.

I asked our lead lawyer about why the prosecutors didn't prosecute the other company for fraud. His reply was that it didn't work that way -- it was up to us to prove the fraud in court on our own.

So don't think that the trial you are talking about can't lead to criminal charges even though it is a civil case.

Do you think the Attorney General of New York might have political aspirations of his own? AG of New York has been kind of a stepping stone for the governorship lately with Eliot Spitzer(remember that sleaze!) and Andrew Cuomo.

If something was criminal then I am pretty dang sure they'd be all over Trump for it, civil cases do not meet the same scrutiny not to mention how totally unfair it is for these powerful litigants to file claim with whatever judge they like regardless of where in the country.

I wouldn't be surprised if in some rare instances one could actually pick the judge, but in general that is not the case. The judge is assigned to the case, not selected by the plaintiff. Of course, a plaintiff will typically try to file in a jurisdiction most favorable to them.

Also, the only way you can choose a jurisdiction anywhere in the country is if the lawsuit touches that jurisdiction in some way and you have standing to file suit in that jurisdiction.

So your concern over them filing a claim with whatever judge they like regardless of where in the county is completely unfounded.

I don't think its unfounded, like the NFLPA for example files everything in Minnesota because they apparently have a judge that is favorable to them there. There is a shopping around when it comes to powerful litigants, the fact it happens at all kind of undermines our whole legal system in my opinion. Judgeship is a highly political job, they're not baseball umpires.(who suck and should be replaced with robots! )

Note that the judges in Minnesota have moved NFLPA lawsuits to other states, too.

the fact that they were filed there in the first place proves my point that they shop around for judges in favorable municipalities, the case they moved out of Minnesota was with Tom Brady I think over his suspension from 'deflate-gate' which obviously had nothing to do with Minnesota.

I wish I had the money to get into real estate, I wouldn't need to pay anyone for information I can get freely on the internet or just I think common sense, it's something I've always been very interested in as a lifelong renter especially with how cheap it is in this state. My parents finally became homeowners once I left the house, I looked at a lot of places over the last few years. It's not something you can really do without the capital to begin with. I wouldn't pay for seminars as a matter of principle, some people do.

I wish I wasn't pushed into going to college right after high school when I was totally unprepared to do so, that debt is still haunting me as far as getting grants and such. As an unaccredited program that didn't give out degrees, they weren't getting student loans were they? This money was coming out of pocket or was financed I assume, these people knew what they were paying for but maybe they didn't know the housing market was going to collapse which you can't blame on Trump.

I think the people knew what they were paying for but they unfortunately got into that game too late or way too early to avoid the collapse. Bad timing, sucks for them. Those that wanted a full refunds got them when it was available, doesn't sound like any scam I've heard of.
