I never spoke in class like I do here - not as much anyway because it was hard not to say anything. The teacher had even said that there had been fights before in his class and chair throwing, etc., Lord help us. I knew the teacher was Democrat. We did have some heated "discussions", but I held my tongue more than I wanted to. The teacher must have liked my spunk because he hit on me (it was totally unexpected - I was just standing there and looked up and there he was! Our noses were almost touching! Yuck! I think I just threw up in my mouth. That actually bothered me for awhile even though other people were around because he did other things too, but I just can't remember now.), but I got my A! Ha! I made such a good grade that he even let me out of doing a second research paper! I guess I know how to use my Conservative wiles, huh? Oh yeah.

Thanks for helping me make my point! :P

Education should be, and usually is about discourse. Most people who cry about classes being one-sided are just too scared to speak up and defend their own point of view.

Having and expressing different ideas is great. engaging in the dialectic process in order to find a "more truthy" truth is even better. That's what most teachers want to do (in my experience).

Getting my A is more important than trying to prove my point of view to a teacher and a class of kids who I will never see again. My grade will always be with me. And what was your point that I proved again?

Years and years ago I was at the Lawrence Campus. Education for me is and was more than a grade.
It was for useable skills. Though I learned much in college it was continuing ed and on the job I've learned much more.

Taking care of myself as well as those I work with came later.
To those in medical, mental health and other careers - secondary trauma can be all to real.
Is driving across KS traumatic?
We used to have bumper stickers about that drive and suicide being redundant. We were strange back then. The Royal We.

Umm.. you said that you did speak up in class (a little bit), but you still got an A.

So, expressing yourself didn't hurt you.

I mean, not speaking out like you do here is a good thing--because most of the time you sound like a crazy person when you post here! :P

...but that's what message boards are for.

Most of my classes I'm in it for the grade. International Relations isn't going to help me one bit in a patient's room, but the grade will help me advance to a higher degree. The classes I'm taking now for $13,000 will not help either except for pharmacology and pathophysiology. Wasted money as I see it, not to mention time.

But, by learning different things, by adhering to a wider curriculum, you become a more well-rounded person.

My wife feels the same way as you, by the way. I wonder if it's a nursing thing LOL

I think he gave me an A because of my great looks and stellar personality! Just because one is Conservative, doesn't mean they are conservative in all things. :)

Yes, and even if you never use the specific knowledge from the course, the process helps you learn how to think in new ways.

The two most important classes I've ever taken were intro to philosophy and general sociology. Both taught me to see the world in new ways.

(Beer used to be my favorite drink though - with a straw! That's probably why I have an allergy now - cause I drank just too much of it. Darn. I can still remember how it tastes, too. Yum!)

There's always Near Beer, but you might still be allergic to it even without the alcohol.
KS does have really clean rest stops on the interstate.Nicely landscaped.
The only place with cleaner bathrooms is Utah.Somehow even the portapotties are clean there.I swear the one at Mt.Meadows Monument smelled like air fresher had just been sprayed in it.
Cross over into Nevada and the bathrooms get funky again.

Didn't you know? Our s**t doesn't stink here.

Oh, and I tried Near Beer and it definitely isn't the same. Too many calories when it's not the real thing. I even used to drive when drinking it in the car until I realized that's illegal! Duh. 8O

I've lived in NV and KS.

KS slopes aren't so good.
Seemed as if there was something called Mount Blue?

People are friendly in both places.
Of course my wife tells me I talk with folks everywhere.

News recently reported KS was better than MO. at something but I can't remember what.

Why would you want to leave Nevada for Kansas?

Great job
The job I had in NV was great to. I actually took my state boards on the phone and interviewed at KCI.
Both places have animal labs. One of my houses in NV used to get walk away animals.

I like change
I don't like gambling (never been to the area "boats"
Love the music scene here
Like my long term job here
Might retire in another area?
Scotland??

Backing the day I worked with the State Mental Health System.

Those were the days before other states did the gambling including lotteries.

I'm in a different branch here in the Midwest.
After 15 years at the same place my boss started asking me the same question you do.

It made me go huh? And smile.

My badge says contractor
A participant or was it a client said something like you help build people up.
Actually they do it inspite of me.

me ... a name. ... 8) 8) 8) 8) 8)
