I wonder if this will be an omen for how things turn out here this November.

I read that the vote was split along generational lines. anybody have any backstory to add to this?

The young have grown up in a Europe where they are free to travel, study or work in any EU country and as such
many feel as much European as they do British. The older generation are less inclined to feel European and have
a distrust of the EU.They also have a distrust of what they see as an 'elite' in London who they view as being in league with their counterparts in Brussels.
There is also a distinct sense of older people in England wanting to re-inforce not only a British identity, but specifically an English one.The fact that Scotland is strongly pro-European has highlighted this too.

in light of your last point, do you think this may lead to Scotland and Ireland going on their own?

That is an idea although I think it would only realistically appeal to Protestants in Northern Ireland, with Catholics opting to have Irish passports and Scots preferring to make their own way if it came to it. The question of having Irish passports is something that's also floating around, because not only can any Northern Irish be entitled to one if they wish, but people in mainland Britain who have Irish grandparents can also apply for one.

I thought I read somewhere that Las Vegas, Houston and West Virginia of late were badly affected by floods and had to be rescued from their homes. There were about 29 deaths, there wasn't a single one here in the U.K, but then again, I can hardly call 2 ft of water a Monster Flood in any area or region. No one got put off going to the polls.
Must have been the taste of a pending Brexit launch.
