(clicky)GOP legislator proposes bill to ban protests as "economic terrorism"
this is how fascism begins. ban protests first. it just keeps getting worse.

Any legislation banning peaceful assembly to petition the government for redress of grievance is prohibited to Congress by the first Amendment and to the States by the 14 th Amendment. The GOP legislator ought to read the Constitution, in particular the Bill of Rights.

Absolutely true. And if this travesty gets turned into law, we'll know for sure that our Republic is in jeopardy.

Illegal actions like blocking traffic and sitting railroad tracks, is not covered by the 14th amendment.

Anything that's illegal to do outside of a protest, is still illegal to do during a protest.

The travesty is how poorly the rioters conducted themselves.

Blocking traffic, attacking pedestrians, starting fires, throwing bricks at the police, etc are not legitimate forms of a protest and should not be tolerated.

Like Baal, I was talking about lawful demonstrations. Our concern, I think, is that the shutting down on lawful assembly and protest might arise from cracking down on the more violent demonstrations. Big business would love to use such laws to break strikes and picket lines.

This proposed bill is about raising certain already illegal crimes from a misdemeanor to a class A felony. But I take it the theory is that this is going to somehow morph into any and all kinds protests becoming a felony.

it is about the potential to be charging ALL protestors with "economic crimes," one of those weasel words with very wide latitude for interpretation.

What some random legislator in Washington state legislature proposed really isn't particularly meaningful or relevant, what chance would it have in becoming law? I think somewhere approaching zero.

The thing is, when it comes to reprehensible ideas, just one person isn't the only one who is going to have them.

You see it that way because you're being practical and logical instead of paranoid.

IMHO paranoia is a sane response to an insane situation happening in our country now. the people who are NOT scared are AFAIC a truly scary bunch! 8O
