Martin Sheen was incredible in Apocalypse Now,one of the most intense and memorable films ever. The majority of actors will never have the chance or talent to appear in a film like that.Captures Heart of Darkness perfectly.
I never saw the tv show with him.Sounded boring to me.
Once people make a political statement it's ok to mock them.Whether or not he's washed up is just a matter of opnion.I have no idea, haven't seen anything recent of his.

I'll second praising Sheen for Apocalypse Now.

In general I think western civilization has lost respect for not only it elders, but for the civilization itself. The government, the media both are now against us if you believe the New American Order. It's easy to throw out the old, but what will you replace it with?

The phrase "washed up" was used in the description I read.

For all you know the description was written by a 50 year old.

My feelings don't get hurt by that. I just don't like it when people think they've been given an excuse to act like an authority figure and start admonishing others. I think they're full of hot air a lot of the time and are just doing it because they get off on it.

So you're just thoughtlessly parroting words you heard/read elsewhere? Have you learned about critical thinking in school yet?

Slightly OT, but how did the connection between liberalism and Hollywood/Broadway originate?

Not saying with any certainty that it's the case here but manufactured offense runs rampant on message boards so any claims of offense I wouldn't lose any sleep over.

Having said that, I don't like Sheen's politics but I do love this scene from the movie Gettysburg where he did an admirable job of playing the part of Robert E. Lee.

No, I was mentioning something someone else said which I found amusing. Which has absolutely nothing to do with critical thinking. Which you probably would have realized if you yourself had applied critical thinking to the matter.

Another thing I learned in school is what context means.

Oh I see it all the time and usually it's without basis or merit. And often a result of prejudice.

It's the old, it's not so much what was said, but who said it.

In this case it was some snot nosed kid disrespecting his elders. If I had been 56 instead of 16, it wouldn't have gotten that reaction.

And the sad thing again, is I made it clear that "Charlie Sheen's dad , a washed up actor who's played the president" was something that I read. Which I repeated because it made me laugh. It sounded to me like something John Oliver would say.

It's all too often people jump up on a soapbox half cocked and start browbeating someone, because of a knee-jerk reaction or they just didn't bother to assess the content or context. I see it all the time on social media. I'm sure liberals being taught they need to be thin-skinned PC police has something to do with it as well.

I'm much older than you, have more education and more life experience than you. You are being very rude and dismissive to me. You're not even an adult yet. You might want to rethink your attitude towards adults who have more education and life experience than yourself, and take into consideration how your own perspective might change and expand as you become an adult and further your education. If you were less dismissive, you might actually pick up some wisdom from others who have been where you've been and also been around for longer than you. There is no need to be rude.

Imagine how great our civilization could be if we actually valued what we created. But we are a throwaway culture. Each generation sure that it is the most important. And when they realize they are not, they have children because, surely, their children are the most important. It's sad to see how people keep repeating the same error even when they face of endless disappointment.

You're very nice. I would have said we have a "cannibal culture." You're certainly right about the "throwaway culture" though.

I think of the human race with a streak of "evil" running through it. It didn't used to be evil and was considered what's made the human race great (including grey matter, etc.) calledSurvival of the Fittest. This used to be a great thing when it was fang and claw, but now all these traits are anti-life and anti-progress. Professionals know this....but how to take the "killer" out of the "ape" without making negative changes? (Not through constant war and killing, that's for sure).

You're getting as crotchety and old as me. I defend Ezra because I've seen him demonstrate the traits (less dismissive, etc.) you list here (perhaps not quite as noticeable in the first couple of years I've associated with him? :D ).

Don't forget us older folk can be wrong AND exasperating from time-to-time also and cut the kid some slack?

Sorry for butting in Ezra but I see action displayed here I sometimes see in myself.

Get over yourself and stop putting down others based on age or education.

I mean why don't you also make a case that I'm too cognitively impaired to know what I'm saying while you're at at it.

Would my being wrong about something excuse him being rude and dismissive to me unprompted? What exactly did I say that was rude that prompted such a response from him? Did I make some kind of faux-pas when I wandered into this discussion or is Ezra taking out on me some issues he has with other people? Other people have disagreed with him but he wasn't so rude to them, what did I say that prompted a different response than the responses that other people who disagreed with him got?

I really don't understand what I have done in this thread that I deserve to be talked to like this. Why this rudeness to me personally, when you haven't reacted this way to others in the thread who disagreed with you? Have I done something to you to prompt this particularly nasty response? Is there something I need to apologise for?

You're the one who made it personal. And my responses were in direct proportion to what I was responding to.

Don't dish it out if you can't take it.

If you can't stand the heat, stay out of the kitchen.

Don't play the victim after being aggressive, just because someone got the better of you.
