pope warns rising populism can lead to another hitler

I understand. That's why I said equivalent thereof. A recognized legitimate expert in the field. Although I'm not sure what field would apply to concluding Trump is the new Hitler. Political scientist? Historian? Sociologist? All of those combined and maybe more?


Nothing scholarly. Just a general feeling of dread.

it was said by scholars of end times, that the antichrist would come from the world of politics. am not so sure rump orangehair qualifies as he is not a regular pol and is certainly not a world figure. as bad as he is. i'm thinking more along the lines of somebody in the royal family. I have a feeling that the antichrist exists now as a young adult but has obviously not demonstrated antichristey stuff yet. he must, by definition, be one that "nobody can make war with." IOW either somebody so overwhelmingly terrible, or [more likely] so overwhelmingly reasonable [or a combination?], that nobody can contest him.

I get the impression that in order for the pope to win this argument, Trump will actually have to change his name to Hitler, and even I don't see him going quite that far.

He was "Antichrist." That is, he was opposed to Christ. Lutherans, and most mainline Protestants in general, don't believe in a son of Satan coming to undo Christ's work, but rather, that there have been, are, and will be, persons who try to destroy Christ's work, and even put themselves in Christ's place. It just so happens that the references to the Antichrist, and the mark of the Beast, fit very well with Nero, whose persecution of the early Christians was longed remembered.

In fact, he's working as a Hollywood reporter, doing stories about the entertainment industry, and even reported on the Omen remake.

Classic definitely. If I ever saw the remake I completely forgot it. The sequel to the original was okay I suppose, but the original was a true classic. Very suspenseful and eerie.
