Has the internet gone to the trolls?

It's funny when people have an exaggerated sense of self-importance. One only hopes they're doing it deliberately, and not pathologically.

I don't believe it is possible to cope with every one of everyone's problems, any more than it is possible to take in all the strays.

I have heard a professional specialist or tradesman say it a million times, that is not their problem or field of expertise or beyond their payscale. They didn't sign up for that. Read the terms. Set some terms, guys. You'll sleep better, and your food will sit.

My dad told me about a couple of prominent trolls back his Usenet days who used their real names and gave out so much personal info members were able to figure out where they lived and posted their home addresses. That didn't stop them any though.

A skilled troll never gets a TOS warning or banned because they don't actually commit any offenses themselves, they provoke others into doing it then report them.

I don't really get trolls. They get a rise out of someone, which I guess is kinda making a connection; but it disrupts real dialogue and denigrates the topic.

Once a troll is identified (not difficult) one has only to ignore them and skip over their posts. By being outraged you are only giving the troll what they came for and they will stick around just for you.

I have to admit I've always found trolls to be kind of amusing and don't mind playing in the mud with them for a while. My feelings can't be hurt because as a hardhearted American conservative I don't have any.

The net is a big place, and trolls have become migratory. Some congregate outside the paywalls, or in the less moderated sections of other sites. The worst trolls are the stalkers. The lines get blurred in digital spaces.

Let's face facts. Some trolls here only want a genuine emotional connection with another person. The actual haters play it safe by trolling here. I don't want them to troll the people they actually hate, and get in trouble or worse. Trolling us keeps them alive and free.

Who is a troll is very subjective as to whether or not you like the person or what they have to say.

Unless it's someone who is blatantly obvious about it.

Then there's others who just don't realize what an annoying pain in the ass they are.

I would add, bullying can only happen, with the consent of administrators, whether online, or in real life. Someone has discretion or is the tie breaker.

To the extent that administrators have the only definition of bullying that matters, your assertion seems correct. However, I disagree on the grounds that rules can't eliminate anything, ever. Not really.

Most aspies like rules to some extent, but we should treat their limitations honestly.
