Cut the nonsense you guys. Was the US civilized under Obama when he bombed Pakistan after 3 days in office. Supported 3 massacres in Gaza. Upped aid to Israel. Tripled the war in Afghanistan. Continued the war in Iraq. Invaded or covertly invaded Libya, Syria, Ukraine and Yemen. Drone bombed innocent civilians including US ones. And caused problems in other African countries.

If people actually educated themselves they would calm down.

The world can just be thankful it wasn't Clinton.

Also, I find it interesting how 'anti-racists' are obsessed with Trump's skin color.

Sorry if I contributed to the derailment, by expressing my blanket disgust for the man in general.

Specific to this topic - as an American it's strangely comforting to me, to know that other countries around the world 'have my back' in finding his agenda unacceptable. I feel like I'm being 'held hostage' by his oppressive and dangerous policies, and am grateful that other countries are making it clear to him, that they won't tolerate his abuse of power.

Not you Ashariel! We are a small country and not blameless (as no country is) but we have long ties with the USA - many New Zealand women married American serviceman because during WW2 and the Vietnam War, New Zealand provided troops a place to recover, rest, recreation. The sad thing is that now, for the first time, many of us - including me - who have had and have close ties of family and friends in the USA and have visited there a lot over the decades are of one mind in that we won't visit until normality returns, which we hope will be sooner rather than later. We hold out hope for better times for America too.

Sometimes it strikes me as a possible irony that I may have seen more of America than many of the members here.. and I have many many wonderful memories of the USA in kinder and wiser times. My Christmas wish is that something good comes out of this horror and chaos.

By some of the responses here (and many other threads) you'd think the USA had become another Nazi Germany.

Little to nothing has changed in the day to day lives of most all Americans, nor do we expect it to.

Lol! That pathetic spineless puppet is funny. He defends the media because they were well behaved and silent as he murdered and increased wars. Only FOX news went after him on fake claims, cause they couldn't go after him for just being W Bush 2. If everyone keeps in getting called Hitler or Nazis it will get beyond a joke.

I have nothing against American society. Just against their foreign policy. The worst on the planet.

New Zealand seems to agree with you on that point.

You made it sound like only a few "commies" on WP are making this insinuation. I was pointing out that your own former POTUS has made this exact risk assessment

The only American dollars we want is tax paid to on the huge profits companies like Apple make in New Zealand and pay no tax on at all. How convenient for them.. Do they get away with it in Australia too?

They used to dodge tax in Australia but when the Tax office clamped down on them this is what happened
https://www.crn.com.au/news/apple-austr ... ent-449173

It's really a dilemma as most of us want Apple to pay their fair share

I do not see the link between Apple and letting the US monster the Palestinian people and threaten countries who vote against them. I was appalled that our government abstained. What a bunch of craven cowards. We do not need the US. They need us because they want bases in our region. We should have voted with honor, not slunk off quietly like a cowed dog.

I imagine that's what many Canadians think about our abstention, too. My reaction was more like.. "Yeah, I can see why Canada would abstain. The USA is our largest trading partner.. our gov't isn't about to bite the hand that feeds, kind of thing. Sure, we're not dependent on them for handouts.. but life would be very different without their business. If Canada along with the other 128 countries we could have done ourselves some harm in terms of bottom line $$ so I get why our representatives would take the safe road.

Why is it surprising?

Those idiots are our next door neighbours.

And a Super Power nation.

And we're dependent on those idiots for trade/economic purposes - probably more so than any of their other trade partners.. well, save for an tiny countries who's entire economy is dependent on US aid.

I don't like that we didn't joint the other 128 countries in telling Trump to f**k off with his BS, but I understand why we didn't.

Hyprorisy.

IMHO If another president even a republican had declared Jeruselem to be Israel’s capital but said Jeruselem’s fate would be left to negotitations this would have happened.

The move would have been condemed widely but without a resolution condemning the US and without nearly the degree of anger with the exceptions of the Palestinians and terrorists looking to take advantage.

The US would have taken names privately.

This is more about Trump then the issue at hand. Nearly every Democrat who condemed Trump was for moving the US embassy to Jerusalem. But with the resist everything Trump does mentalty locked in and thier base more sympathetic to the Palestinians the Dems have to have a “change of heart”.
