I know a young guy from Haiti who came to the US to go to college.

When asked about going back to Haiti a few days ago, he said that he would be be scared to go back to Haiti. If he had stayed in Haiti instead of coming to the US, he would have been relatively safe. By leaving the country for an education, he would effectively have a target on his back if he returned home after he graduates. It would be quite dangerous to go home.
