Dramatic change demands for radical measures. I think this is very close to terrorism. But I also think the vegans chose the right tactics.
I'm concerned about my cats though. If veganism becomes obligatory, my cats won't have their animal proteins because they rely on me, and I won't be able to buy them food they need. It will lead to carnivorous pets getting banned.
If producing cat food is not prohibited, people will start eating cat food. And cat food will become more tasty for people.

the poor and elderly have long been eating catfood. the slang term for various GOP groups' plans to cut social security and medicare has long been "catfood commission."

No, of course it's not terrorism. Being shouted at highly constitutes terror. It's just unpleasant. If that is terrorism, then every loud crowd or person are terrorists.

Overly dramatic protesting often defeats its purpose and has the opposite effect.

I agree with both of you there. If someone is trying to shove an opinion down my throat, I will resent it and distance myself from it even if I agree. And I'd be likely to do the opposite just to spite them.

I have heard people say things I completely agree with but because of the way they go about it, I feel in opposition to them and dissociate myself from them.

It's a very inefficient way of getting anyone to see your point.

the militants in that case need to borrow a page from the bible where Jesus admonishes his followers to pray for one's enemies but quietly.

At least they weren't violent or trashed the steakhouse.
The protests we see today with the loony left, the violence, the name calling (to shut down debate)the intimidation.

When I read the title, I had a vision of vegans going after diners with sharpened carrots.

I also think it's borderline. Many of the customers (regular people like you and me) were doing something they thought was normal (having dinner in a nice restaurant) when having people i) scream at them through a loudspeaker and ii) make them feel guilty for eating a steak iii) interrupt personal time iv) intimidate/humiliate them by filming and posting on youtube.

In time animals will stopped being slaughtered by humans for food but millions of herbivorous grazers are currently killed and eaten by predators every day? by extension should they interrupt a lion nibbling on a antelope and complain? the ethics is a little loopy

Yes they don't think these things through. I recall the vegan girl I used to work with would have endless debates (ad nauseam) in the tea room and she was constantly busted over her clothes, driving cars, garbage, electricity and flush toilets and other things she did which resulted in harming animals. It seems the militant vegans have drawn a line on what constitutes harm to animals but have no problem living in a society that causes mass extinction of wildlife

humans are easier to deter from eating meat, than lions and tigers and wolves and such.

Good point but (for example) domestic cats must eat meat or they die. I doubt the agitators in PETA or Animal liberation who are militant vegans would offer a solution. If you release the cats into the wild they kill all the native wildlife. It's funny but you never see the militants take aim at the mass killing of feral cats or dogs...

it's more fun to lord it over other humans than to rule cats and dogs and such, that's old hat.

So if these w#nkers get what they want and everybody stops eating meat, what then. How do we feed everybody? To provide plant based diets to all humans, we would have to clear extensive tracts of land leading to extra pressure and probable extinction of the wildlife. All consumable animals would become redundant and in the fight for plant based food, hungry people are unlikely to share acreage and crops with domesticated animals. Basically, massive numbers of animals would die.
People would also need to protect all the crops so there would be a horrifying increase in pesticides being released into the environment. Bees are already dying out and when they go, they're taking us with them. Is that what these vegans really want?
I'm all for ethical treatment of animals. Temple Grandin has done wonderful work improving our treatment of animals in food production. I like Temples thinking.

Nah, lets just start on the Soylent Green project and the vegans can go first because they are the greenest. Yum!
