What defines being "criminally shut down"? Being turned down for renewal of a contract? Being banned from a privately-owned website or ISP? Being told "No Thank You" when offering to give a speech? Being ignored, challenged or ridiculed for what you have already said? No, no, no, and ... no.
What is “criminally shut down”? Harassment Law and Legal DefinitionSome examples of being criminally shut down are silencing the speaker by physically attacking the person for expressing their “opinion”, rioting to intimidate the speaker and to intimidate those that want to give the speaker a platform, threatening those that want to give the speaker a platform, maliciously hacking their computers.
And has any of this actually happened in this particular case?

Go Daddy did not do those things others have.

You in these threads are trying to educate people as to what the right to free speech does and does not entail. I in my remarks are trying to do the same thing. As many on the right do not understand private companies censoring speech by withholding financial support does not violate the right to free speech many on the left do not understand that the right to free speech includes the right to opine hate speech without being a victim of a crime. Some in authority enable criminal attacks on hate speakers. If the right to free speech is not protected whether that speech is hate speech or a company breaking contracts because they do not like the content on a website the constitution is not worth the paper it is printed on.

Yeah, both the Right and the Left need to be educated on what “Rights” really are, and the responsibilities that go with them.

The Left won’t accept it, because they already learned all they need to know from their Leftist-dominated university curricula.

The Right won’t accept it, because they believe that their Word is Law.

Which puts the rest of us between the back end of a donkey and an elephantine manure pit.

Not sure why shutting that site down is against anyone's rights. People have the right to share what they want, including the providers. If a provider doesn't want to allow the website to keep running it should have the right to stop supporting it, just like the rest of us. Same goes for YouTube, it can choose what it allows.

And for companies trying to make a profit, its the customers who decide. We don't live in a world where private institutions are legally forced to open their services to anyone just because its "fair".

If YouTube wants to be a public place then it’ll be legally treated as a public space.
YouTube like the left says it’s a free speech open to everyone place then blocks anyone right leaning. So much for what the day they are

What if all internet providers decide feminism is bad and so anyone supporting or talking about feminism or women’s rights will be blocked and shut down, are women rights violated if they can’t go and speak anywhere online? Certainly without their voice people will turn in support of the opposition which is exactly why all these tech companies are targeting anyone not left to shut down open communication and turn the tide to the left by silencing opposition.
Facebook and YouTube are public places and shouldn’t silence anyone’s speech.
If tech companies were silencing the left you’d feel differently

It doesn't concern me what they allow or don't allow. They could allow all right-leaning content and I'd be fine with it, and I would agree with it personally. However, I still firmly believe that it is the right of a company to decide who it allows to use its service. They state their rules and allow their service to be used for free if those rules are followed.

I'd be fine with them silencing the left. I already disagree with a lot of what the left says and I'm sick of their arguments, as much as I am of aspects of the right. I think however that if they did block the feminists there, they would find new avenues to express their views, so no loss for the supposed "women's rights".

And even beyond this, as far as I can tell, there are already a lot of right leaning videos on YouTube, specifically videos that target those who oppose the right. I've even come across videos espousing more extreme right-wing rhetoric that haven't been taken down, as I've also seen from the radical left. But if we force government to dictate these private spaces to act publicly, like YouTube, then we're no different from a socialist country, which takes partial but not absolute control over its industries. In any sense, it will always end in the hands of a centralized individual or government and the rest of us loose.

This way anyone who disagrees with who YouTube allows can start their own sites, using their own providers. If a group of people can't find the support then they need to find a better way to convince people, as free speech is meant to be.

Although Trump has been the most divisive figure in USA political life, he has been a successful unifier of two factions that have never been united before, the alt right and the "normalised" right. At the same time, he has worked hard to increase division, resentment and hatred between the other major groups. This is why the USA is becoming far more dangerous - the far right haters feel legitimised. Trump doesn't care about the consequences and deaths of innocent people which result from his extremely reckless rhetoric. So please consider recent events in that wider context before asking more opening questions such as the one in the quote. What kind of political cultural climate do you want to live in? One of hatred, division and right wing terrorism? Perhaps you do. Perhaps it's exciting to wartch this toxic decay of civil society. (Now you may choose to reiterate your blame-the-Democrats-it's-all-their-fault response).

I don't see how there's a connection between my post and yours. I also reject the notion the right and alt-right are aligned. Their name says it all, alt-right! They moved away from the right.

You can see the increasing unison in the rising tide of the anti-left hysteria. You don't even have to look further than to cast an analytic eye on what is happening on Wrong Planet to see this toxic phenomenon.

Well we probably have something in common somewhere with just about anyone. You can even be solidly on the left and be technically in agreement with the alt-right that the far left is a problem. That doesn't make you aligned with the alt-right, and it doesn't make you wrong because someone else shares your view.

It's actually anti liberal. And liberals don't really support things the left used to support anymore.

Wow. I can't believe that there are posts in this thread asserting that tech companies are silencing right leaning voters. Tech companies, and people in general, don't care if you support right wing political beliefs about government and taxes. They're silencing Alt-Right, aka Neo Nazi, hate speech. There's a big difference. I personally applaud every effort anyone makes to wipe this hate speech BS off of the internet/tv/radio/print media etc.

You may applaud tech companies working with NATO and governments to ban mean speak or wrong think. But what you don't realise is that the same companies have worked with governments in South America to ban left wing organisations etc. The tech companies just work with who is in power to silence dissent. You can crow for people's rights to be taken away in the US but then the Republicans can use those laws to shut people like you up.

^Corporations aren't saints and will simply do whatever makes them money. Pretty sure they realize that Most of the world are not white people, and that many white people are not white supremacists.. so, of course they'll suppress white supremacist hate speech. It just happens to align with left views at the moment.

I agree, and would like to note also that since the enactment of the Genocide Convention that certain hate speech is ipso facto actually a punishable offense, mostly hate speech of the nazi/"alt-right" kind:

Quote:
... Article III

The following acts shall be punishable:

(a) Genocide;

(b) Conspiracy to commit genocide;

(c) Direct and public incitement to commit genocide;

(d) Attempt to commit genocide;

(e) Complicity in genocide.

Article IV

Persons committing genocide or any of the other acts enumerated in article III shall be punished, whether they are constitutionally responsible rulers, public officials or private individuals.

Article V

The Contracting Parties undertake to enact, in accordance with their respective Constitutions, the necessary legislation to give effect to the provisions of the present Convention, and, in particular, to provide effective penalties for persons guilty of genocide or any of the other acts enumerated in article III.

Article VI

Persons charged with genocide or any of the other acts enumerated in article III shall be tried by a competent tribunal of the State in the territory of which the act was committed, or by such international penal tribunal as may have jurisdiction with respect to those Contracting Parties which shall have accepted its jurisdiction.

Article VII

Genocide and the other acts enumerated in article III shall not be considered as political crimes for the purpose of extradition.

The Contracting Parties pledge themselves in such cases to grant extradition in accordance with their laws and treaties in force.

Article VIII

Any Contracting Party may call upon the competent organs of the United Nations to take such action under the Charter of the United Nations as they consider appropriate for the prevention and suppression of acts of genocide or any of the other acts enumerated in article III. ...

Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide - Approved and proposed for signature and ratification or accession by General Assembly resolution 260 A (III) of 9 December 1948 - Entry into force: 12 January 1951, in accordance with article XIII

You don't understand Goldfish. This has nothing to do with silencing white people or 'hate speech'. It is crushing dissent via propaganda. Whether that dissent comes through left or right wing voices. The main objective is to shut people up. It's pure fascism. You will cheer for it now but then change your mind and regret it when it affects you or your views.

You really think that neo nazi white supremacists should be allowed to run amok spreading their hatred in the name of freedom of speech? :?

Legally, yes. Personally, no.

I did not stop a co-worker from wearing his neo-nazi patches on his company-supplied work jacket. I merely pointed out that he was in violation of company rules that prohibit anyone from displaying political and religious slogans on company property. It was HE who declared "MY Freedom of Speech or I quit!"

I don't think that anyone misses him...
