I heard that spire was added in the late 19th century and was generally disliked. And even though it was the newest part of the cathedral, it was in the worst condition.

Yes, it was built later (they don't make them like they used to)- you know, at first they hated the Eiffel Tower too , yet both became very iconic.

On closer inspection the spire does look more 19th century "gothic" than late medieval gothic.

I was thinking the same thing. Did not match. I absolutely hate later modern/contemporary add-ons to an older original structure.

This might turn out to be a good thing. It was crumbling down and now some serious money will be spent. All these

French cathedrals belong to the French government and many are in a terrible state. It's not a popular thing to

spend money on and prob never seems immediate. This might be enough to make some sort of change in how

French cathedrals are funded.

Before last night the costs were estimated to 150-170mil Euros. Now 300mil euros have already been pledged by two French billionaires and I'm pretty sure more people will want to chip in

It looks like they don't believe it was arson.

Which is good.

There's a video on YouTube of the interior AFTER the fire.

Most, if not all, of the art has been saved.

It could have been much worse.

One thing that might come out of this: more construction jobs. More vintage architectural jobs.
