Just because the race card is often played in order to exploit liberal guilt does NOT mean that issues of racism does not exist.

If you read my last post, I said " issues of true racism. " You jump the gun too often, it results in you getting your feelings hurt because you don't fully read before you respond.

My feelings aren't hurt, but perhaps you're right. I jump the gun too often. Lol

But there ARE idiots (mostly right-wingers and MAGAs) who say "racism is not an issue anymore" which is BS. I know this for a fact because I hear people in Georgia say it all the time.

I don't doubt that it exists. My argument is that it is used when racism isn't the issue, personal accountability is.

I agree, it's called 'liberal guilt'. People often play the race card to shame and exploit white people because no white person wants to be labelled a racist, even if they actually are a racist.

African Americans seem to be in a similar situation to Australian aborigines, not surprisingly Australians have treated aborigines almost as badly (a number of laws were enacted in the 20th century which were directly borrowed from American Jim Crow laws relating to restricting their spaces/movement/who they could marry/jobs they were allowed to do).

However aboriginal people have crossed the racial boundaries last century so today mixed race aborigines outnumber "pure bloods" so that probably half can pass as white.

I think interracial mixing is the only cure for racism

So this is how they move into white neighborhoods? What if they don't want to marry a white person? You are acting as if white's are what's preventing interracial marriage. There are two parties involved in your plan, yet you act as if there's only one: whites. This is turning out to be a bizarre and revealing conversation into your psyche. You believe in inclusion and equality, yet you are speaking for blacks as if they lack the mental capacity to weigh in and make relationship choices for themselves.

In all fairness, it was whites who had instituted anti-mixed marriage laws, as well as Jim Crow laws. And as blacks aren't the majority, or in charge, they can hardly be blamed for those things.

Those laws aren't in use, there's nothing preventing two people of different races from marrying. My question is still the same, has anyone polled the black community to see if they want to marry whites exclusively? They may like their own color for spouses.

True, but the ghost of Jim Crow still haunts us.

 We are light years beyond where we were in the 60's

Depends who you talk to.
There are too many whites who believe not only that racism doesn't exist anymore, but that so called reverse racism is a bigger problem.

I don't care about reverse racism, I can fight my own way through most obstacles. I think racism is lucrative, in some ways very beneficial to those who want to use it as an excuse never to try. Or as a defense against legitimate issues with work performance. " Oh, you don't like that I show up an hour late, and then don't work? I'll accuse you of racism. " That turns people off and it makes them less compassionate towards issues of true racism. It's overused to the point that it's losing effectiveness.

Sure, there are those who misuse the term "racism" when they get in trouble at work, but that hardly applies to all or even most.

Ironically it's usually white people who exploit liberal guilt most of the time.

That's all part of white privilage. White people can afford to get pissed off with the issues of racism and not suffer the consequences of speaking out against it. But people of color often have to keep their thoughts about the racism they are subjected to, to themselves. Or else.

Where has it gotten you? It's backfiring because whites who weren't even born yet, or who were babies during the Jim Crow era are blamed for everything. I'm willing to own my faults: I threw litter out the window when I was a kid, I didn't start recycling until later in life, I've been guilty of a racial slur or two when I was a kid (until I knew better). I have embraced equality since college, late 80's and early 90's. But mostly, I was just trying to survive childhood with crazy parents, ADHD and ASD (that I had no knowledge of ). So tell me exactly what the **** I've done now, other than refuse to hold anyone else to lower standards than I hold myself? When I knew better, I did better. When is everyone going to stop blaming and be better?

Making up for racism has nothing to do with guilt for things that had been done before we were ever born, but because it's the right thing to do.

A therapist would disagree.

And he/she would be wrong.

How do we make amends with the millions of historically oppressed minorities like Elizabeth Warren?
