Do we let robbers and rapists have their way with us for lack of a suitable firearm?

As I said earlier, knives are frequently confiscated in prisons because they are so easy to make. You also said that outlaws would have knives if all knives were banned. I don't think that a knife ban would deter things like rape. Someone who has their mind set on committing rape or robbery can easily make an improvised weapon whether it is a crude knife, or something else.

Replace the word "knife" with "handgun", and you've just made a strong case for legalized gun ownership.

I believe that an armed society is a polite society -- when have you ever heard of a rape, a robbery, or a mass shooting happening at a gun show?

By this (and to bring the conversation back on-topic), I mean that if more English citizens are legally armed, fewer public stabbings would occur.

but that's just one man's opinion, right?

I am surprised that you would be pro gun but anti knife, I am not against people having guns, but you were saying that you thought there should be a knife ban and we're arguing against me when I pointed out that a knife has more practical uses than a gun.

I was using the same arguments against knife ownership that anti-gun nutters use against gun ownership to make the point that more English people should be allowed to carry handguns in public. I believe in people being allowed to arm themselves for self-defense, whether with a knife, a handgun, a cricket bat, et cetera.

After all, the knife-weilder was taken down with a bullet, not a blade.

I saw something on TV where someone was using a fire extinguisher to try and disarm someone on a bridge.

Why did you use the anti-gun approach with me when arguing about knives? I don't think I have made any kind of argument about banning all guns.

I'm sorry. I thought that any member of this website would see the analogy I was trying to construct. I'll try to be more transparent from now on.

I see the analogy as far as what you were saying, I just don't understand why. I would think it would only be necessary to use that approach when arguing with someone who is anti-gun. I was saying I don't think I have made any comments to give you a reason to make an argument with me to illustrate your point with me about the anti-gun approach.

How would you control knives as much as you can control other weapons? Despite the total ban on weapons, you can't even have one hundred percent control of knives in prison, how would you fully control them in a free society where knives even have many lawful uses as tools unlike guns or explosives?

He's joking.

Thanks for clarifying John

I would dispute the label you are throwing at anti-gun campaigners, many of whom are victims of gun violence

Emma Gonzalez is a social hero to millions. whereas her detractors in the NRA are typical of the right wing nasty cowards who like attacking teenage girls like Greta Thunberg.

Speaking of which, the real "nutters" are pro-gun people

Wasn't there a push to prohibit knives with points or some such nonsense a while back? Did that go anywhere?

Wonder if Lukasz will be arrested for illegal possession of a deadly weapon..."Oi mate, you got a license for that whale tooth?"
