I have checked my legal system, my belief system, and recent posts on Wrong Planet criticising Christianity, Judaism, Islam and the followers of any faith or religious culture as inane, irrational and bad. The mockery needs to stop. I'm tired of mudslinging from members who insult and mock others on the site and worldwide, yet consider themselves openminded and egalitarian.
Who is mocking religions?
Okay, one more post. I'm in a pleasantly terrible mood, as per usual.
You do quite a bit of it. It's easy to mock people who don't share your beliefs. Just like if I was to go in the transgender thread and open up about what I really think..."why do I have to say your play-pretend fantasy is real?" which naturally would be very hurtful, and not at all proper or decent. At that point it doesn't matter who's right or wrong. It's the fact that it comes to keyboard squabbling instead of actually seeing things from the others' point of view.
Someone who supports gun-control is not going to believe the sportsman who talks about how relaxing it can be to do some shooting. And an avid marksman is not going to credit the anti-gun activist who brings up his view of how no one really needs fifty shots in one gun.
I enjoy living a lifestyle that to most people looks like a re-enactment of the 1910s and '20s. To me, modern living is a confusing mess, and I can't see why people would even bother to own an Alexa or Google Home. Then again, to the up-to-date sort of person, my life is a confusing anachronism. We can't sit down and enjoy hearing about the benefits these ways bring if they are shouting me down as an air headed dreamer and I am insisting they are thoughtless wasteful prodigals out of touch with reality.
G.K. Chesterton wrote, "Never let a quarrel spoil a good argument." He was a contentious man, considered obsolete even in his own time, but he was close friends with Shaw, Wells, Kipling, and many others whom he ripped apart in his news articles. I say the most important thing to do regarding discussions is to go with the other person and see how they live. Take into account the incredible diversity of the human race, and realize that the last forty years are not the age of humane enlightenment they are cracked up to be. Forget enlightenment. Forget theory. Look directly at the other person, ask questions, and let us become really and truly human in our behavior once again.
