There was no irony in McCarthy's interview. He spoke from true feeling. He's a Republican. He's a Conservative. But he's not a nut like Trump.
McConnell is the one that supported the Tea Party protests. He was the one that delegitimized a sitting president in order to stuff the judiciary with political appointees. He has delegitimized our public institutions and parties--that is not the same as simply criticizing them. He encouraged the corrupt action of the Trump administration and threw fuel on the fire of this attempted coup.
No, he is not a nut. He is an opportunist that will use raw power to achieve his personal goals. And this is not a "well, both sides do it" argument. This shift to authoritarianism has been the Republicans doing with him at the helm. The fact he does not see the irony in the outcome he laid the path for does not surprise me.
And lets put this into context: a sitting president urged his supporters to storm the capitol and overturn a democratic election. And the strange thing is no one is surprised.
