That's usually what happens. The biggest neo-Nazi group back in the early 1990s in Australia was the Australian National Movement or ANM who's primary platform was stirring up fear of Asian migration taking their cue from conservative politician and later prime minister John Howard who espoused anti-Asian values (sounds like Trump and Charlottesville) which became widespread at this time.

The ANM broke up in the late 1990s after their leaders murdered white people and were thrown in jail where they belonged
Many of their ex-members are now organisers leaders of the current batch of neo-Nazis

Don't forget Pauline Hanson and her "Flooded by Asians" position, yonks ago.

Howard made his famous speech against aboriginal rights and asian immigration in 1988 which predates Pauline's "we are getting flooded by Asians by 8 years.

Howard was deeply involved in the history/culture wars of the 80s and (as I already said) was a backer of Geoffrey Blainey's philosophy not to have a "black armband" view of history.

Pauline was infact coached by David Oldfield who was an advisor to the liberal party and likely also previously influenced Howard and Abbott.
