4 Catholic Churches burned down (so far!) in BC
/\So every Catholic is bad? What about the Baptist churches, should we burn them also? Hell, let’s just burn down every institution that’s guilty of crimes and abuse.Gonna be lots of fires.

Does anyone actually give a damm about the first responders and and firemen that show up to fight the fires or are they just collateral damage if they get injured ?
I think forum rules don’t allow for condoning violence.

Good start! Keep going, imo.
I concur!
The catholic cult gets away with enough abuse and atrocities, as it is.
I hope this becomes a trend; that's something I can stand by.
Not to mention the blood they have on their hands historically is atrocious.
Let a few wooden boxes burn. Big deal.
As I noted earlier in this thread, much the same rhetoric as used to justify attacks on Mosques following 9/11 - Punishing an entire community for the actions of a minority of that community's members, which the majority were unaware were occurring...
Then again, I guess it is entirely possible that those supporting the burning of the churches in the present time are the very same people who supported attacking Mosques back then, which would explain this similarity.
These jerks worked my area molesting kids. They had a camp six miles from here .

Although I can understand the feelings of violence and the symbolism of arson, no form of violence against people or property will ever achieve the desired outcome or redress the terrible things that happened. It might take frustratingly long to seek justice through legal means, but it remains the best way. Only problem is when these atrocities occurred so long ago that those responsible are long dead. Then it is the duty of the current church leadership, government or local authority to acknowledge the atrocities and seek to make amends through whatever methods might be appropriate.
I notice there have been some differences of opinion on this thread re the morality or justification of arson, and thank the member who sought to reconcile those positions. I don't think anyone here has actively promoted arson but condoning it isn't recommended - please remember we have suggestive members on this website who could be influenced by reading such, think they can get some or other perceived revenge that way and get themselves into trouble.

I never said every catholic is bad, I'm talking about the institution not the individual.
I support justice and it means something different for everybody; I'm not condoning or objecting to anything with my opinions, as that's not my place or purpose.
Simply, I'm just agreeing with the symbolism of retribution from the current victims and their descendents.
They have that right, in my book, as an observer of human behavior, nothing less, nothing more.
What about the collateral damage of the stain Judeo-Christianity has on humanity? We'll just overlook that? Ok..
If a firefighter gets hurt, those guilty of starting them should be prosecuted properly and accordingly.
My opinion on things aren't so black and white. I can understand and appreciate multiple view points at the same time.
I don't believe having an opinion or feeling about something is in itself an admittance of condoning or objecting to that thing in question.
We are all simply expressing our opinions on the news story at hand and sharing a healthy discourse on a touchy subject.

Could the culprit responsible for the arson be a former victim?
Molesting, yes, but also their participation in running residential schools on behalf of the canadian/provincial governments where they tortured and murdered Indigenous children.
Several more churches have been burned down, btw. Good. Keep going. They're an awful symbol of fake faith & fake do-gooders.

/\Two wrongs don’t make a right.
I was a victim of abuse at a children’s home ran by Methodists, I have never considered burning a Methodist church or the residential home I was at.
I’m not overlooking the damage those institutions have inflicted on people. There should be restitution to the families of the survivors and a hefty one.Burning buildings isn’t the answer.Fireman shouldn’t die today because someone gets handy with a lighter because of events in the past.
Were those churches offering services to the community now? Childcare?Soup kitchens?Food pantries?
A structure fire threatens the innocent, it could spread to other homes, catch the woods on fire and then there will possibly be more deaths.

9/11 was a different circumstance all around with a magnitude of so many different layers involved and has nothing to do in relation to this story in question and the retribution involved.
Those who burned downed mosques in retaliation are indeed in the wrong; I agree.
They also weren't the brightest bulbs from society, as they also attacked the sikhi community and institutions, not being able to distinguish the two religions from one another.
The indigenous communities are hurting right now with this discovery. I don't regret my empathy in opinions for their pain and outbursts consequating from the revelations of tortured dead children of their ancestors.
Human behavior is intriguing to witness, when such passion and anguish blend together with the histories of relations between governments colonizing tribal peoples and taking their land while committing the genocides of their peoples.
Possible, but not conclusive.
Different victims of different crimes during different times in history are reacting emotionally to a different set of circumstances, so the possibility that they are the same exact people is unlikely.
Well...its like burning the flag of a country you dont like. Or, vandalizing a statue of an historic figure whom you dont think deserves to be honored. Attacking a symbol.
But unlike a statue, or a flag, there might be people inside of that "symbol" using it while its on fire, or even if they arent there they use it at other times.
Dont wanna take sides in this situation north of the border.
But wow. It sounds like things are coming to a head between the First Nations people and mainstream Canada.

Well let’s just burn down everything that’s wrong. Some people’s faith is real and they actually do good. Why punish them?
Keep going? So you are encouraging people to commit crimes ?Like Enviro said, there are impressionable people on this site that might do what you are suggesting. What if the burn a building with someone inside ? Now they have a murder rap and their life and others are ruined.I’m not sure about the laws elsewhere but there is no bond for arson in my state.

What the folks that risk their lives to put out the fires have to say.

Advocating crime or violence is against WP rules. Please remember that...
It's like someone burning down your home because someone gets the idea that your ancestors were responsible for their current situation, They use the same kind of argument here when farmers are attacked and killed because of what their ancestors did to them. Here too, there's at least one mission and one Christian drug rehab centre I'm aware of where various abuses took place, but no one has burned them down.

Dismissing Indigenous voices as if their struggles are ancient history and the wrongs of Canadians' ancestors is bad form, IMO. The last residential school in Canada closed in 1996.
As a baptized Roman Catholic & God Father to several, I'm all for The Church losing it's power, money, buildings etc. I'm not a pyro and won't be setting fires, but it doesn't bother me one iota that these buildings are gone - sent to the fictional Hell where they belong.

No one is dismissing their voices.
After that whole town burned down up there I’m surprised you would approve of fire as a way to address wrongs.
There are devout Christians on this forum that are good people, Fnord,Kraichgauer,Mountain Goat,AngelRho and others. While their belief isn’t mine, I respect it and them.
I think it’s in bad form to egg on crimes against property that could result in death.
Again, what services did those churches offer the community today?
Food banks like these? How many will suffer because they can’t get enough food?
I use the local Christian food bank here every month and it really helps me to get by.
