Trump booed after urging crowd to take vaccine

Pumpkin was just saying, "I got the vaccine and I fully recovered from the coronavirus. Now it's time all of you follow suit and do the same!"

This of course triggered all the boos directed at him.

Just my opinion. :lol:

Yeah, that's pretty much how I see it too, he was so focused on saving the economy he was planning on running on that he screwed up his pandemic response, when he could have just as easily run on a good response. I do like pointing out the irony of Trump downplaying an issue that could have allowed him to seize a huge amount of power with minimal objections, it's very hard to square with the wannabe authoritarian charge often leveled against him.

Do you remember when Trump tried restricted travel from China early on to try and control the virus, and Democrats responded by calling it racist and making a show of visiting their local Chinatowns? Trump screwed a lot of things up, but lets not pretend there isn't blame to go around.

My family and I remember that very well. When Pumpkin took that action, he believed it would
have made him more of a political superstar, but of course it backfired.

The devil is always in the details, and my recollection is that his proposal was too broad in some ways, too narrow in others, and too late to come across as science driven. Kind of like his travel restrictions when he first took office. But, overall, I did feel for something close to a month that he was doing his best. And then his patience seemed to run out … sigh.

It all depends on what one wants power over, and his sights were elsewhere. I don’t know if we will ever fully see the play he was trying to make, but he was definitely making some very unusual and unprecedented chess moves in his last year, most of which were buried in the late Friday news dumps.

Historical patterns do suggest that if he had excelled in the crisis he could have won (as in, no dispute). In many ways he seemed to shoot himself in the foot by changing course midstream. Another thing we’ll never know.
